After a long day of school, it's time to wind down and get comfortable, prepare for the next day. I try not to stress myself out during this time and rejuvenate myself at home. During my first year of college, I knew it was hard for me to have a routine because I was still settling in and getting used to everything. Now that I am a sophomore, I have better time management skills and get a lot done. My night routine is the very last part of my day before I head to bed.

1. Eat Dinner

Usually, once all my classes are done for the day, generally around 5 pm or 6 pm, I go out and get dinner from the dining hall using my meal plan and go back to my dorm and eat there due to COVID-19, or I order food from Uber Eats and get it delivered to my dorm.

2. Personal Care

I then brush my teeth and take a shower to freshen up, and get into a fresh set of sweatpants to get comfortable. This part is the most relaxing for me since it is a chance to rejuvenate myself and personal alone time. I usually take about 45 minutes to shower and to put my clothes on. I like hot showers the most. They are the best to help ease up muscles ache, especially after a long day with school. This is the most relaxing feeling ever. Some of the products I use are...

  • Cetaphil face Cleanser
  • Dove Body Wash
  • Tree Hut Sugar Scrub (exfoliate skin)
  • Bath and Body Works Scented Lotion

3. Complete all Homework/Study For the next day

Most likely, with college classes, you will always have work to do, so this is the time to get some school work done, especially anything that is due the next day, and try to turn it in online ahead of time. If I have a quiz the next day, I try to focus on that, review the material that should be on the quiz, and make sure I'm prepared. This is the longest part of my routine; it usually takes about 2-3 hours to study and catch up on all my work for all my classes. I try to take breaks in between this time, though, so that I can stay focused. You have to put in the work for school to succeed and get the best grade possible. It is worth it at the end of the semester with that A.

4. Preparing to go to bed

After studying and completing homework, I am usually tired and ready to go to bed. I probably spend time on social media or watching tv before I fall asleep, but for a short amount of time. I also make sure to set the alarm for 7 am to wake up and get ready. I tend to set multiple alarms starting at 6:30 am; it is usually hard for me to get up from the first alarm. So by the time it was 7 am, I would be wide awake from the previous alarms.

5. Sleep

Rest Up and Have a Good Dream!

I hope this helps any college students out there, especially a freshman or just anybody in general, to practice good habits and time management. Having this in practice helps me a lot mentally, and it is perfect on a school night. Preparing for the next day is essential, but having this time, it is also important to rest up and take things slow, especially if you had a bad day. You always have the next day.
