My Jewellery Escape
The journey of healing through crafting.

The activity I'm currently exploring is in creating embroidery jewellery this is a recent hobby that I have showed an interest in due to a health condition that has decided to appear in my life which resulted in a lot of changes that weren't positive and at times hard to deal with. So to fill my days and to keep my mind occupied I decided to learn how to create embroidery jewellery so I decided to do a few online courses in that particular area of jewellery making.
The First course I did was called Bead Embroidery feather Earrings this course helped me create my first jewellery piece it wasn't to my liking as I didn't like the design I created I thought it lacked something and the design style and colour scheme I choose wasn't appealing and I wanted to try a different design style .
For my second design I wanted to create something that was soft and classy for the embroidery part of the jewellery piece I added pearls ,pink coloured crystals , a seed bead mix of white, silver, bronze, crystal clear to give the jewellery piece a nice elegant classy look, for the tail part of the earring I choose cream coloured feathers it gave that soft texture and feel that I wanted to achieve with this jewellery piece for the beaded tails the same coloured seed bead mix was used and a pearl bead was placed on the end , the earring hook I choose to compliment this piece was a golden hook with a diamond in the centre which added an extra element of beauty and class to the design.
When I created my third piece of embroidery jewellery I was hoping to achieve an entirely different look I wanted a design that was funky , different and edgy , for the embroidery part of the design I chose gold embellishments with a seed bead mixture of different coloured greens and light green bugle beads for the tail of the earring I choose a bronze with a hint of green coloured peacock feathers with a combination of green beaded tails on both sides with an golden arrow charm attached. The earring hook chosen was a golden hook with a curl at the end.with this design I wanted to change the shape of the embroidery part to a triangle as with the previous it was a rectangle I also included seed bead tails on both sides so when worn both sides can be seen.
My current embroidery jewellery piece I'm doing has not been completed and is in the process of production it is an half circle shaped design with the seed beads following the shape as each seed bead is sewed on. The design style is from a course I've have done which is called how to create seed bead beaded long clip on earrings but my colour palette is my own. I've chosen a lavender cream and pearl coloured seed bead for this design with the backing being Faux leather in lavender to compliment the main colour the earrings will be clip on with a golden lever back.
My inspiration for designing each of these embroidery jewellery pieces comes from fashion i always try to imagine what my earrings will complement either in a more casual kind of fashion style or something more elegant .
the Soft , classy and elegant earring design I believe would go well with a classy white dress or even with a more casual style of just jeans and a elegant top as with the funky ,different and edgy earring design i would imagine it being worn with a sexy black or gold dress with knee high boots with this particular design i also imagined the atmosphere that this earring would be worn in i can see the gold embellishments shining along the street lights or even amongst the bars dimmed lights , the golden arrow charm simply implies the night can go in any direction as we all know charms signifies a meaning hence why this was also added to the earrings design.
What inspired the colour palette and design of the current project im working on was actually from a t-shirt dress which i purchased and i wanted earrings that will go well with it , its a pink dress with floral prints on it .
Creating embroidery jewellery pieces is at times challenging and also fun because you need to think of how will this design style be worn and what will it compliment , using fashion as an inspiration can open a world of endless design styles and colour combinations imaging the complete look and feeling that you have created something truly unique is greatly satisfying.
Crafting of any kind can take your mind to a place of peace using your mind, thoughts and visual imagination helps forget life's reality and brings to life your hidden creativity. I found for me personally doing jewellery of any kind helped me escape , helped me realise that crafting isn't just about cutting ,sewing and gluing it's also about making me realise that it can heal in many ways the mind, body and spirit.
