Mom of 6 creates the first towel onesie!
The Original My Buddy Towel®
I turned a light bulb moment into a small business! My daughter insisted on using 3 towels after every bath. One for her hair, one for shoulders, and one tied around her waist! I was tired of the towel laundry mounting so I created a full body towel for complete coverage! Now she can slip on, zip up, and go! It all started with towel fabric and a pair of scissors! I sat down on the living room floor and cut the fabric, then sewed it together. I took that prototype and eventually had them manufactured into 3 colors and 6 sizes. It’s been an incredible journey bringing a product to market! I like showing my kids you can do anything when you put your mind to it!
Here’s a recent blog post:
Angie Myers, mom of 6, turned an idea into a product in less than a year. The Original My “Buddy” Towel® was created out of frustration!
Laundry was overwhelming for the mom of 6, especially when 1 daughter would always use 3 towels after a bath. (1 around her shoulders, 1 for her hair, and one wrapped around her waist!) I was tired of the unnecessary towel laundry piling up!
She turned to google to hopefully buy a solution. (Google can solve everything, right?) Well the search resulted in more frustration-realizing there wasn’t a perfect solution!
Yes, there were hooded kids towels, or bath robes, but already tried those with no luck! (they left her legs exposed and were made with polyester which left her feeling sopping wet) They needed something with full coverage and something absorbent.
Bath after bath hoping she’d use just 1 towel, maybe 2, but nope always 3. She had that nagging gut feeling that wouldn’t go away- She needed to create a full body towel!
She told her husband about the idea. She sat down on the living room floor with scissors and towel fabric. Once she showed her family the prototype her Husband bought her a sewing machine and simply said, “go for it!” Angie sewed them together. It wasn’t perfect or functional! But it gave her family a better picture of what She was trying to make.
So, again Angie turned to google. This time to figure out how To make a functional solution to to solve the ongoing problem! One thing led to another and google became her best friend!
She had factory made prototypes within 2 weeks. Made a couple measurement tweaks and 2 weeks after that She had unboxed the frog and pink flamingo prototypes! It was like Christmas morning so exciting opening and seeing my idea come out of the box!
It was so exciting seeing my idea come to life! My kids were excited as well. My daughter used them right away and ever since she only uses 1 towel-The Original My “Buddy” Towel®♥️
It’s amazing what can happen when you follow your intuition. It was literally a nagging gut feeling that wouldn’t go away! After realizing I had a unique, never been created idea that’s cute and fun for kids(bonus it solved our problem) I wanted to share with others so I negotiated with the manufacturer in sizes, colors, and quantity and I ordered my 1st batch of inventory. Then a second, now a third!
I’ve had to learn as I go. (Thanks to a pair of scissors and towel fabric, google,my family, and this wonderful entrepreneur community!)
