What’s your name and where are you from?
My name is Marissa Detlor. I’m from Brookfield, Connecticut.
Why do you love what you do?
To transform my thoughts and feelings into a song that becomes part of other people’s lives is truly incredible. There are people from all over the world that not only listen to my voice, but also the lyrics that came from my mind. That feeling will never get old. I love having the ability to wake up with music on my mind, whether it's in the form of songwriting, recording, videos, or some of the many other aspects of being an artist. Having a career that aligns with my passion is the biggest dream come true. It’s fulfilling, exciting, and definitely a journey with many ups and downs. That’s why I love it most. Among the lows, there are so many unexpected highs and experiences that make it all worth it.
What makes you different?
I’ve always been a big fan of songs that incorporate a poetic type of lyric where if you took away the melody and left only the lyrics, it would read like a poem. I'm very picky with my lyrics, especially with my most recent songs. I always like to make sure I throw in some unique twist to give a completely new perspective in a lyric. I say something that hasn’t been said in that way ever before. The way I write my lyrics feels fresh, unlike what’s on the radio or what’s trending on TikTok, but still relatable to people in an authentic way.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I see myself making meaningful music and sharing it with a community of people who listen and relate to what I have to say as an artist. I see myself touring, sharing magical moments on stage with my fans, and performing at awards shows with a choreographed stage filled with dancers and pyrotechnics. I see myself helping people heal through their hard times with my music just by putting the exact way they’re feeling into the right words. In 5 years, I’d like to be an established artist with a solid fan base that looks forward to new releases and feels a strong connection to me as an artist and as a human. Most of all, I see myself happy and still doing music, just on a much bigger scale.
What do you want to accomplish in life?
I would love to become an influential, successful artist with a fan base to match those heights. I want to make it to the Grammys stage, win a Grammy, and only remember the love that got me there. I would love to achieve number one singles and high grossing tours. Most importantly, I want to use my voice to make music that people feel when I sing. I want to balance success as an artist with happiness as an individual and somehow manage both well.
What do you bring to your industry?
I bring raw talent and real vocal ability. There are a handful of artists today that some would argue wouldn’t be in the industry if autotune or songwriting teams didn’t exist. Since I was little, I’ve always had a strong voice. I worked hard to sharpen my skills and learn the fundamentals of the voice. If autotune wasn’t a thing, I still would be. Some of my most successful songs have no other co-writers. I don’t need an entire songwriting camp to produce music for me, I am truly self made and can write and perform my songs without help. I bring true, authentic music that wasn’t manufactured or ran past several people before being given to me. My songs are real, raw, and personal from my mind.
What do you want to be remembered by?
I want to be remembered as a real artist with integrity. Someone whose music has become a huge part of people’s lives. I want people to listen through my catalog of music and have good memories of their own lives flood back as soon as they turn my records on. I want people to see what I have accomplished and let that be the inspiration for them to follow their own dreams. I want people to remember me as someone who uplifted and empowered people, not only through songs, but in everyday life. Lastly, I want to be remembered not only as an artist, but as a genuine, kind, loving soul who has made others’ lives better by being here.
