Meet Alex Omen Akak AO

What’s your artist name and where are you  from? 

Hello, my  name is Alex Omen. Some people call me AO and I am from Columbus, Ohio.

Why do you love music?

I love music because I feel like music is a force that drives a vast majority of what happens within the culture of the world. Music surrounds you in your day to day life and it’s pretty much unavoidable. Music is something that brings a whole bunch of different kinds of people together. Music has also given me the platform to express my innermost feelings and my emotions in the best way that I can. I like to tell people sometimes it’s not really about the words but it's the sonics and sounds that really evoke emotion and I think when all these elements come together it can be truly groundbreaking. 

What makes you different as a music artist? 

I think something that I really pride myself in as my artist is my ability to tell a story. Human beings are naturally storytellers, you know. I read about something called the Narrative Paradigm which is the theory that human beings are more convinced by a good story than a good argument. It just has to be believable. I feel that my songs are very down to earth and that people mess with them because a lot of the scenarios are relatable you know and people are moved by things that they can find themselves in. But to answer your question sonically, I feel like what sets me apart sonically is that I am inspired by a lot of things that aid my creative process while I’m writing songs.  From trap, to neo-soul, to dream pop I feel like my music borrows heavily from many genres.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 

In five years I really see myself doing a lot of traveling, you know. Right now it's slightly difficult because I’m a student and what not. There are so many parts of the world that I haven’t seen and I just want to experience the beauty of it all. I would really love to go to Paris. I also want to visit Brazil because I made some friends from there that I met in D.C a few years ago and I would really love to visit them. But yeah I think traveling would not only help me in inspiration for my music by giving me new stories to tell, but I think It would also just help me on a personal level by experiencing other cultures and opening my mind aspects of life that I am not currently familiar with.

What do you want to accomplish in life?

In life what I really want to do is bring love into this world you know. I feel like to love is the only thing that is in our human ability we can do in order for us to change this corrupt world, you feel me?

What do you bring to the music world? 

I think that in this new era of music, what I can do is that I can truly offer different perspectives and talk about stories that people may not feel comfortable sharing. I want to just make art that is extremely in tune with my soul but also make music that brings people together for real. 

What do you want to be remembered by?

I would like to be remembered for being a real person and honest person. Someone not afraid to show their true self and I feel that right now music is the best outlet for me to do that but who knows I may end up delving into other art forms like writing screenplays or acting or what not. I just want people to remember that above all the most important thing in this life is to love.
