Let's discuss something sneaky—like stealth-mode sneaky—that is most likely destroying your output. And no, not your phone beeping every five seconds nor an infinite to-do list. Your mood is what drives this. Yes, your emotional condition and energy level. You wouldn't have seen that one arriving, then?

How Your Mood Influences Productivity

The truth is, your attitude greatly influences how well you handle tasks. Imagine this: your low is like that of "couch potato meets rainy Monday". You could be simply depressed, annoyed, or enraged. To be honest, how motivated are you to address your top concerns? Just exactly. Not especially. You are not finishing that report, phoning that client, or even doing laundry folding. Productivity seemed to be just stuffing its bags and leaving the premises.

Now reverse the script. Imagine yourself as unstoppable—like though you simply finished a presentation or destroyed an exercise. You are confident, enthusiastic, and eager to take on the planet. Suddenly, answering the phone or starting that large-scale project becomes less intimidating. You are in the zone; success seems natural. That is the influence of your attitude, buddy.

Why Do We Let the Day Control Us?

The worse is that most people allow the events of the day to control their mood. Things are on cloud nine if they are going rather nicely. Should things go south, well, it is catastrophe and darkness. It's like turning over the keys to your automobile and having someone else choose your route of travel. Why do we behave in this way? Really, then?

Taking Charge of Your Mood

The good news is that you *don't* have to allow the erratic curveballs of life control your attitude. You are in fact in charge. Indeed, you have the ability to shape your present, right now moment of feeling. Furthermore, it is not some kind of woo-woo magic show. Baby, this is supported by science.

Amy Cuddy, a social scientist who presented this amazing TED Talk, is one very cool example. (Should you not have seen it, put it on your watch list. Like, right now.) She researched how our body language, hormones and all, might literally affect our feelings. She had folks strike either low-power stances (all slouched and closed off) or high-power poses (imagine Wonder Woman, hands on hips, chest out) for just two minutes. Two minutes is it?

The Science of Power Poses

And in the end? Wild is Those in high-power postures experienced a 25% decrease in cortisol (the stress hormone) and a 20% increase in testosterone, the confidence hormone. Those in low-power positions, on the other hand, saw a 10% reduction in testosterone and a 15% increase in cortisol. Allow that sink to settle in. Standing like a superhero two minutes will literally change your brain chemistry.

Not only "Oh, I think I feel better" kind of material either. We are speaking of real, quantifiable hormone fluctuations. Your body functions essentially as a control panel, with buttons that change your mood. Insane, right?

What to Do With This Knowledge

You might be asking, "Okay, so what do I do with this info?" now. Not to fear; in next conversations we will explore all the delicious specifics more closely. I'll walk you through building your own personal productivity blueprint including tips like this to keep you blazing daily. For now, though, here is what I want you to remember: you control your emotions. Not your manager, not the temperature, not the hapless man who cut you off in traffic.

So let me ask you—who right now is in charge of your mood? Are you allowing the world to tug your emotional threads like a puppet master? Alternatively are you rising and stating, "Nope, I’ve got this"? Trust me; once you get control, you will be unstoppable.
