Becoming A Dead Idol

The Results Of Today's World

By Dr. Cody Dakota Wooten, DFM, DHM, DAS (hc)Published about 2 hours ago 3 min read

There is an old idea that has existed for millennia...

When you know not a god...

You make a god.

Now, this is typically referred to as "Dead Idols" in Christian belief systems...

False gods that have no power and provide no life...

Dead.

But there is an interesting thing that I have seen occur...

It is also not something new, but perhaps has scaled to a new level.

People who become Dead Idols.

They have their followers...

With people who worship them like gods...

They have the fame and fortune...

But when you look in their eyes...

Dead.

They say the eyes are the windows to the soul...

And their souls are dead...

With fake smiles upon their faces.

It reminds me of a part of the Bible...

"whereas their idols, in silver and gold,

products of human skill,

have mouths, but never speak,

eyes, but never see,

ears, but never hear,

noses, but never smell,

hands, but never touch,

feet, but never walk,

and not a sound from their throats.

Their makers will end up like them,

and so will anyone who relies on them." - Psalm 115:4-8 JB

Now, this verse is not talking about humans who become dead idols...

But it easily could in today's world.

I have seen many individuals...

Created by the algorithms and their "fans" who dictate their actions.

They have eyes, but never see what they hope.

Ears, but never hear the words that they need.

Hands, but never grasp what their hearts cry out for.

Mouths, but feel that they cannot express their true thoughts or ideas.

Feet, but they can never go where they want...

They are made...

Created...

To be these idols by algorithms and people who follow them...

And everyone in these cycles...

Find themselves dead.

The algorithms stop providing value and simply offer up the next cheap idol...

Only worth 5 seconds of anyone's time.

The followers become emotionally addicted...

Craving the dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin that are triggered by notifications and feeds...

And over time, controlled by oxytocin and vasopressin that keep us bonded and attached to people who do not even know we really exist...

Craving real connections, but being left with nothing valuable.

Then there are those who become the dead idols...

Always afraid that if they do not continue to appease their fans...

If they do not allow their strings attached to the algorithms to dictate what they do...

That they will lose everything.

At the same time...

They compromise a value here...

Another value there...

Hoping to build their following enough to follow their passions...

But their passions are always smashed by the algorithms and fans...

Who only desire more of what they worship...

Feeling that they should feel so glad and joyous for getting what so many seek...

Yet despising everything that their lives have become...

Smiling and laughing for the cameras...

But crying and contemplating ending everything on the inside...

Everyone involved...

Feels empty...

Trapped...

And hollow.

I see this happen more and more in today's world.

People glorify it...

Devote themselves to it...

Beseech for the graces and blessings of the unfeeling dead powers...

All met with silence...

For dead idols and dead powers cannot provide the life we seek.

Our basest desires do not fulfill...

The algorithms only care for what keeps us most addicted...

And no amount of idolization will fill the voids we feel inside.

If you truly want to live...

You cannot seek to live in the system of dead idols.

It does not matter where in the system you exist...

It will cause you only death.
