Live a Little — Life Isn’t About Just Saving

Spend a small part of your earnings on yourself. You’re here to live, not to plan for seven generations

By NaeemPublished 7 months ago 3 min read

We spend our lives saving. Saving for the future, for the family, for the “what ifs” that may or may not come. We forget, in the middle of all this planning, that we are allowed to live too.

Take just ten percent of what you earn — and use it on yourself. Your hobbies. Your small joys. Your long-forgotten dreams.

The household will continue to run. It always does.

No matter how much you save, your children may still find it too little. They may sell it, spend it, or not even need it the way you imagined.

But the time you didn’t give to yourself? That never comes back.

You’re not here to arrange the future of seven generations. You’re here to experience, to breathe, to laugh. And let’s face it — these days won’t return.

Life is running fast. One day, your knees will ache. Your teeth will give up. Your appetite will fade. Don’t wait for that day to realize you forgot to live.

Go out. Eat something you love. Walk under the sky. Take a deep breath.

Life is not meant to be locked in a bank account.

You don’t need to take a world tour. Even a simple lunch at your favorite spot, or buying yourself that little gadget or outfit you liked — it all counts. Joy doesn’t always come with a big price tag. But it always needs permission — yours.

No matter how responsible you are, life has its own plans. One health scare, one unexpected turn, and all your savings could go toward things you never saw coming. That’s reality. So why not at least enjoy some of it while you’re still healthy, still walking, still breathing?

In the end, it’s not about being reckless — it’s about being real. About knowing that while family and duty matter, you matter too. If you never refill your own cup, you won’t have anything left to pour for others.

I’ve seen people work their whole lives — day and night — just to leave something behind for their children. That’s noble, no doubt. But in the process, they often forget that their own time on this earth is limited. The harsh truth is: no one remembers how much you saved. They remember how you lived.

Years ago, I used to think that saving every penny made me smart. I skipped outings, said no to small joys, avoided treating myself — all for some “secure” future. But guess what? That future never really came the way I imagined. Instead, I found myself burnt out, disconnected, and questioning what I was really doing with my life.

It took one simple moment to change me: I was sitting alone at home, scrolling through pictures of my friends enjoying a dinner I had skipped — again — to work late. That night, it clicked. I wasn’t living, I was just existing.

Living doesn’t mean being irresponsible. It means allowing yourself to breathe once in a while. Buy the shoes. Eat the dessert. Take the small trip. These aren’t luxuries — they’re moments of life you deserve.

So if you’re reading this, here’s a small reminder: your happiness matters. Your dreams, no matter how small, deserve space in your life. Stop waiting for “one day.” That day is today.

Live now. Laugh now. Because no one knows what tomorrow holds.Sometimes, even taking a walk without a destination can clear your mind more than any financial plan. When we let ourselves enjoy small, present moments, we become better at everything — better parents, better friends, better human beings. A peaceful heart is far more valuable than a heavy bank account.
