The Story of How I Broke My Face
April 20th, 2018 was just an average day for me. I went to school, ate lunch with my friends and then went with my team to my softball game. What I didn’t know was that on that day, my life would be changed forever. It was our first state game, away, about thirty minutes from our school. The game started off well. We were at bat first and scored a couple runs. Once we had three outs, we switched. We took the field and I warmed up pitching, and once the catcher threw it down, the second half of the inning began. First batter: three strikes and she was out. Second batter: ground ball, and she was thrown out. As the third batter stepped up to the plate, I was determined to strike her out and end the inning—until she hit the ball, at almost 100mph, from about 37 feet away, at my face. At first I didn’t know what happened because it was so quick; until I realized I couldn't open my left eye. My glove fell off and put my hand to my face, only to feel something wet and warm gushing down my face. Blood. Immediately I just screamed. At the top of my lungs, just screamed. Screamed in fear and in pain. I went down on one knee in agony. My coaches and father rushed to me trying to help, but what could they do? The trainer came and I was given ice and an ambulance called. Terrified, I opened my right eye only to see the dirt covered in blood, my pants and socks stained red. I waited almost twenty minutes for the ambulance to arrive, although it felt like forever. While waiting, I interrogated the trainer asking thousands of questions including if I would ever be able to see again. The scariest part was that he didn’t know.

The Power of Art
Art is one of the most powerful expressions of life. There is so much to cultivate and experience through it. Art, in its various shapes and forms, is a place to find community and passion, to share perspectives and learn about those you haven't experienced. It brings people together who you may have never met. It stimulates conversation and idea sharing. It evokes emotions you might not have known you had. The possibilities are truly endless.

The Danger of the Comfort Zone
The photo above pictures one of the seven wonders of the world, Victoria Falls in Zambia Africa. The picture can not, in any way, do justice of what I was able to see with my own eyes. The rainbow completed a full circle around the cliffs and the falls go for about two miles. The picture, however, was captured as close as I could get without plummeting to the bottom. I find myself doing things like this quite often, flirting with death considering—that is where I feel most alive.

'Unfu*k Yourself'
We all want that dream house, perfect relationship and amazing career, however it doesn’t happen overnight and to some, maybe never. I want all those things too. We have a nice place, a farm to be exact. Is it my dream house? Not even close. I share a great relationship with my spouse, is it perfect? Hell no! We have our ups and downs like most everyone else. As for a career… I always wanted to be an author, publish something, be a New York Times Best Seller. Did it happen? Not a chance. Why am I telling you all this you ask? It’s because I am sure some of you are feeling what I have been feeling for a while. Stuck in life, worthless, useless and just existing, comfortable. Satisfied and sometimes unsatisfied with the way life turned out. Like my only soul purpose is to be a mom and a housewife. Of course I love having a purpose of teaching these tiny humans and keeping them safe amongst being depended on by a herd of farm animals, but I need more. I crave more. A bigger purpose.

Finding Home
Changing scenery is never easy. Moving can bring personal challenges, discomfort, and distance from your loved ones (both physically and mentally). It can place strain on your feeling of comfort and security, it can be frightening. However, it can also bring new people, perspectives, adventures, and growth into your life.

My Full Moon Affirmation Cleanse
With the energy that came in the month of October, I can say that this energy has impacted my life greatly. It has brought me to my knees and one point and I had to get myself back up and believe that everything has a purpose and I am grateful to simply be alive every morning.

Loyalty to Happiness
Today an hour or so before twilight, with the sky a blend of white and azure, clement as any January day I have seen in years, I read a sentence that made me consider many things. Near the end of a particularly beautiful if not structurally vertiginous short story, the affair of a man named Nino was briefly described. The narrator recalled, “…So Nino sometimes embellished his life with extramarital adventures, in order to display his loyalty to what he called happiness…” What sort of tickled or brushed against my antennae here was not the mention of infidelity, or the suddenness of which adultery was brought up and then moved past. It was the fact that Nino had, at least in his mind, remained loyal to something, namely, what he considered to be happiness. And so, I couldn't help but wonder what deep down I am truly loyal to. After all, we all have our devotions and allegiances, be them virtuous or otherwise.
