A [email protected]. Tale
Art is my life. My life is Art. For as far back as I can remember, I was drawing. Any chance I got with a pencil and a paper I just sat and doodled. I’d get in trouble in classes for doodling instead of listening to the day’s lessons. I’ve lost count on how many times it happened. I was voted the “Class Artist” in grade school and would win awards in art all through eighth grade.

Harnessing Disappointment
It didn't work out the way I wanted it to, in fact it went horribly wrong. Couldn't have gone worse! Today as I sat in front of my laptop anxiously waiting for my first webinar to begin, I thought I had done everything right. I promoted it plenty on social media and within my network, got the message out there for everyone to see. I made videos even, something I'm not fully comfortable with, to promote it and posted them on both LinkedIn and Facebook. Eventbrite told me there would be eight wonderful women showing up to talk about immunity to change, when humans resist change because of deeper underlying fears or assumptions they make about what will happen if they change, if their world changes. I was so excited. I have been practicing for days just to make sure the webinar went flawlessly. With 30 minutes to go, I met with my fellow co-leads to finalise logistics and to put us in the best headspace for what we were getting ready to do. We were so excited. With ten minutes to go, we put our intentions out into the world both for ourselves and our participants. Then with three minutes to go, we settled in for an amazing webinar and the beginning of our journey together as founders of a program dedicated to the professional and personal development of women working in STEM careers. This was our starting block. We were just waiting for the gun to go off.

Things I Want to Learn in the Next Two Years
Last week, I took a 20 minute nap and when I woke up, my thought was “Wouldn’t it be nice if I were to spend those 20 minutes doing something that will help me in the future?” Don’t get me wrong, it was a good nap and I was refreshed afterwards, but after I take one, I can’t help but feel guilty and lazy. To me, when I take a nap, I feel like I’m not being my best productive self, and am stopping time and my growth. During this summer, I’ve had a lot of free time, and I’m sure I’m not the only taking advantage of this time, but I don’t want to be like the rest of my peers. When it comes time to applying to college or jobs, I want to have a list of skills that will differentiate me the pack; and now, going into my junior year seems like the time to do that. Here are skills and thing I want to do during the next two years before I graduate.

Release Your Fears, Change Your Life!
For my first blog post I have decided to talk about releasing fear. I feel that fear is a very misunderstood emotion that traps most people in a mindset that holds them back from understanding their true potential, along with their true selves. Fear blinds the minds eye from seeing beyond the boundaries of potential, it's like a filter that sits inside the brain that will rebound any kind of new belief that doesn’t match up vibrationally to what the fear is interpreting. The problem is, fear rises in the individual, despite any form of danger being present.

Emotional Funks
Emotional funks. We all get them. Which way do I go? What do I do? Why am I not moving? That's just the thing! Emotional funks are misunderstood. They're friends in disguise that remind us simply to DO SOMETHING. MOVE. They're opportunities to choose faith instead of fear. The presence of an emotional funk, existing for us to know that staying in that space isn’t what we want; they are reminders that we can choose to live in joy and hope.

The Writer That Never Writes
I can't say for certain when I worked out that my purpose was probably to write. Or even if it's something I actually needed to 'work out' at all. It's always lingered in the recesses of my mind, pushed further and further into the corner, like the one box of stuff in your attic you genuinely will need again, shifted to the side to make room for Christmas decorations, 'holiday clothes' that your wardrobe can no longer contain (just me?), and random cables and remotes for DVD players you almost definitely no longer have.

On Writer's Block
I don’t think I’ve ever really understood the concept of writer’s block. I know there are times where we don’t know what to write next. I’ve always got ideas, but sometimes I’m uninspired. However, that’s the thing with writing—you’re not going to be inspired or motivated all of the time. In fact, most days you won’t be. There will be occasions when you get stuck, and you’re not sure what to do next. But you’re not blocked.

It's Ok You're Not Being A Bitch
Have you ever had someone say to you that you are being a bitch and you wonder, how am I? Well, you are not being a bitch, people just do not like the change in you. so that is their go-to name. Some people do not like when a woman stands up for herself. Especially when it is to an older woman or a mother-in-law. So she gets labeled as a bitch, because she no longer fits in with what they want. She is not allowed to stand up for herself. A mother-in-law will rather you be weak, an abusive husband will rather you be weak, a hateful boss will want you to be weak. Why? Because these people do not want you to be able to stand up to them, and put them in his or her places.

Have you ever had an idea that was laughed at? Or a goal that others said was impossible or crazy? Or maybe they just questioned why your goals were goals at all? If so, then you're in the same company as Wilbur and Orville Wright. These brothers persevered through adversity for the unseen benefit of mankind. They transformed the world. How can we use them as a guide point to transform ourselves?
