Goals, success, happiness, prosperity, and satisfaction. These are five rewards and blessings we all would love to achieve in life. I think it's common knowledge that each and every one of these rewards and blessings aren't easy to come by. For those who have had the courage, drive, and motivation to pursue these rewards and blessings, you would well know exactly how difficult this journey is to accomplish them. It's an extreme rarity that with just a snap of the fingers, these rewards and blessings can be achieved overnight, or even in just a short amount of time. Most of the time, and for most of us, the journey involves many setbacks, challenges, failures, rejections, adversities, and of course, a lengthy wait. There's a lot of sacrifice, hard work, effort, commitment, and dedication involved, which most of us can completely understand and accept. What most of us cannot understand and accept though, is just how long it takes to achieve these rewards and blessings. After a few weeks, even a few months, we can handle the constant failures, adversities, etc., but a few years, well that's a different story. Suffering through all that hardship, failure, rejection, criticism, and opposition for three, five, maybe even ten years, well it can really become torture for us. It's like playing a slot machine that never gives you any wins. We are feeding this machine, dollar after dollar, and getting absolutely no return, but instead, we are losing our funds hastily. When it comes to the journey towards achieving our goals, it's exactly the same theory. We are constantly putting the effort in to achieve them, and yet reaping no rewards along the way. There's no satisfaction, no enjoyment, to be had. There is a jackpot attached to each slot machine though. The thing is with a slot machine, you can keep playing, and playing, and playing, but still never hit that jackpot, because they are designed to lose. As for our goals pursuit though, if we keep persevering, and persevering, and persevering on that journey, we are bound to hit that jackpot at some point. To do so, we need to possess the right attitude and the right mindset, whilst remaining resilient, determined, driven, and patient.
There's two important words to reflect on here, when it comes to pursuing our goals, that both revolve around the importance of having patience, them being acceptance and expectations. Acceptance is having complete understanding, that by proceeding to embark on the journey towards achieving our goals, or achieving the likes of happiness, success, prosperity, and living the life we desire, it is more than likely that accomplishing such rewards and blessings will take several years. Acceptance is about acknowledging that achieving such blessings and rewards in a few weeks, or even a few months, is extremely unlikely, and that we are going to need to apply ourselves to an incredible amount of hard work over an extended period of time. As for setting expectations for ourselves, well we are basically setting ourselves up for failure. Whilst we possess immense talent, potential, and ability, we also need to understand that not all the actions we undertake, and decisions we make, are going to result in success. We are going to encounter failures, likely many times over, so then it's about being adaptable, and making changes to trial a different action, whilst not being hung up on the failure we have just experienced. We will also encounter rejections and opposition, to which we will need to have the courage and mental strength to repel this negativity, in order to continue onwards with our journey. We simply cannot expect to succeed in a short amount of time, nor expect people to be supportive of us and our decisions, nor expect that we won't encounter failure, rejection, and opposition, nor expect to see any results for a considerable amount of time. When we start to expect things, all that results is frustration and disappointment, because many times our expectations are not met. When this occurs, naturally we feel deflated and disappointed, therefore we want to avoid setting expectations. We can set milestones, but not everything needs a timeframe to be a success. Whether we achieve our goals in one year, five years, ten years, or whatever, if we achieve them then we have still obtained success. When we refocus our attention away from expectations, and instead focus on appreciation, our mindset is immediately shifted. We aren't constantly dealing with the disappointment of failure or still not having achieved all that we desire in life, but instead, we begin to acknowledge what blessings and rewards we already have in life. That fills us with positivity. Having acceptance and removing expectations doesn't mean we can be complacent and content with where we are at, because the purpose of the journey is to obviously achieve the goal, after all. It's about understanding that success, and the achievement of life transforming goals, generally take a significant amount of time, along with all the hard work, effort, sacrifice, and commitment.
Trust me, I can vouch for exactly how gruelling and painful working on achieving a goal is, especially when it goes on for years and years. It's that constant application of effort, it's the constant number of sacrifices, it's the constant amount of time applied, and it's the constant amount of investment put in, all to earn a desired result, only to have to face what seems to be an endless list of failures, rejections, criticism, and opposition. It's far from motivating and satisfying, that's for sure. We can look at the journey in such a light, and become disconsolate about working so hard, for so many years, for little or no result, or we can actually gain a true understanding of the experience, the education, the growth, and the development we are actually gaining along the way. Because we are so focused on the big prize, we totally overlook the fact that we are actually creating success, even if it doesn't feel like it. We are bettering and developing ourselves, because we are constantly finding ways to overcome failure and adversity, and are devising the solution to reaching our goals. We are maturing and growing as an individual. You may think that this is insignificant, and nothing worth celebrating, but the truth is it's through this growth, development, and maturity that we create success. The journey to success is about perseverance, resilience, and determination, so we can work through all these challenges and setbacks we encounter, but it's also about maintaining these qualities, and that's why we also need that enduring patience. Sure, we would all love to reach our goals by tomorrow, be relishing in success, raking in the money, and be extraordinarily happy, but that's not reality. We need to accept the fact that it's a long road ahead of us to achieve what we desire, and we shouldn't place expectations on exactly when that success may come, but instead, just be focusing on the actions in front of us, right at this very moment. With perseverance, determination, resilience, drive, belief, a positive mindset, and the right attitude, we can achieve whatever we put our minds to, but just be patient! Good things come to those who wait, after all!
