Journey: Procrastination to Pro-Motivation

Not exactly self-help

Oh!! another article that will tell me how to get up early and list out the steps to have a productive day. And how to stop wasting my time.

Well yes and no.

Sure, those steps maybe helpful to get productive (Just between you and me, I am not very keen on waking up early). But this is more about the awareness of the journey it takes to even reach the starting line of a place you will feel was meant to be.

Because i believe

If you want to change your life, you have to be aware of what part of your life needs to be changed.

So let's dive in...

The Actual Journey

Now, what you have to understand about the journey is that it can be about anything and everything in your life from the smallest to the biggest of things.

The companions for you in this journey are the two voices in your head: one is procrastinator, other is the pro-motivator.

Let's just call them ProC and ProM, just to be lazy.

1. The Innocent Inspiration

It all starts with a simple inspiration that just lights up your world.

It can be as easy as you saw a person playing a keyboard in the street, or a friend who just became good at playing right infront of you, or your favorite Youtube influencer tuning it up. And the voice in your head goes :

ProM : That is simply awesome!!! It would be so cool if i can play the keyboard like that. I should order it online and start learning right away. This would be fun.

And just like that, you start looking into the best keyboard you can get and order it.

When it comes, you even play a few tunes just by memorising the notes(instead of learning the music) and show off your skills online to your friends.

2. The Follow-through Debacle

Soon the realisation starts setting in that actually learning to play (not memorising the notes) is not as easy as you thought in the beginning.

This is where you start hitting a brick wall and you realise that the people who actually inspired you did a lot of work and gave good amount of time. This is where you meet the other companion in your head :

ProC : Phew!! this is not easy, this requires a lot of work. I can continue this when i have dedicated time and effort to put into this. For now, atleast I started it.

That's the cocktail of accomplishment and mountain of task ahead, ProC serves you to stop you in your tracks.

3. The Promise Of Tomorrow

Many days, months or even years passed by but you are not insight of a return and there is always a valid reason.

ProC : I am just too stressed at work right now cannot look into anything else

ProC : I need to finish watching Dark on Netflix and then i will start

ProC : Among Us launched a new map, i have to play that out first

ProC : I just feel like taking it easy today(Just like the last whole month)

There you have it, you find yourself in a situation where the next step in the process seems very daunting to even comeback to.

And all that is left is the promise that one day it will happen.

4. The Second Coming

More often than not, just like in sports, comback stories do happen where you again attempt something but with a different perspective now.

You know full well that this will not be easy and are also aware of the yards that are needed to be put in to achieve the result. So you just tell yourself:

ProM : Let's just start by aiming for something small. We just need to be better than we were yesterday regularly.

And the thing you don't realise is you have started to walk on a magical path.

5. The Sweet Spot

Now this is the place where everything starts making sense, every effort is rewarding and every new information you get makes you feel like this is where I was meant to be.

Everyone wants to be in this place from the start but you can be in this place only when you put in the hard yards before this.

This is where you don't feel accomplished but rather the voice inside you goes:

ProM : This was so good. I am so excited to learn more about music

Everything regarding the process seems exciting at the moment and you are at a place where each day you are improving at a rapid rate.

It makes you happy. You are motivated.

Now how you get from being motivated to getting good ? That's a different journey but feeling motivated everyday for something is the starting point for it. Hence, this is the sweet spot.

…and I needed to know this because?

The magical thing about life is if you give something significant portions of your time, you end up becoming quite good at it (Just see how good you got at procrastination) .

The current life with its opportunities will not come around knocking again whether you believe in a single life or multiple lives. So why not aim for that sweet spot in everything you want to do.

Make friends with the voice that helps you to do that.
