As a person who takes pride in my identity as an individual above all else — it would seem a hard pill to swallow when analyzing star signs. The idea that based on your date of birth, the stars align and assigns your personality traits. These traits would then dictate how you maneuver in this life. From imposing strengths and weaknesses to even your compatibility with other individuals. How dare the stars choose for me this way? Worst yet, why would they invite millions of others to share in the traits that shape my personality? The most unique part of myself. A crucial element that sets me apart and enables me to stand out. Accepting my star sign must surely be another way to place me in a box. So, why would an individual like myself find any value in it, right?

Wrong! Before I had any genuine understanding of zodiac signs, I have always felt proud to be a libra. Having grown up in a household where three of the four people living there were actually libra.

I am guessing that I can source that unknown pride to power in numbers.

Never once did I assume that sharing a zodiac sign with my mother and brother deemed us all the same. In fact, the differences between us could not be starker. Other than bragging rights in my household, I do not remember my sign, carrying much meaning — back then.

As an adult, however, having been exposed to real-world experiences. I became curious about finding my rightful place in this world. That search then propelled me further into thinking about my purpose in this life. For me, the answers were never so obvious. Most times, I found myself conflicted. I needed guidance, and so I turned to the stars.

I researched what is considered a life path number. It is calculated when the sum of your birth date is continuously added until you have reached a single number. Turns out, I am life path number eight. The similarities I found between my zodiac sign and life path number blew me away. It seemed that they co-dependently accounted for a lot of who I am. What I discovered reinforced in me a sense of self. While steering me towards what I ultimately believe is my soul's purpose in this life.

While I hold out some skepticism as to whether a zodiac sign or life path can capture me fully. It is hard to ignore the areas where I feel perfectly aligned.

The influencing factor in astrology is marked within the symbolism. Understanding the designated symbols, indicates the traits that follow are in response to that governing agent. That being the symbol.

The representative of libra is the balanced scale — a token to harmony and equilibrium. This explains why Libras are known for being great compromisers, always seeking common ground. The symbol of the scale encompasses all that a libra strives to attain — balance.

Staying true to my quest for balance. I discovered I would not have to look too far when analyzing the symbol of the eight. Finding the perfect balance in eight came almost immediately.

My brain does this funny thing when looking at numbers. Either I find a mathematical equation to support the numbers in a sequence. Or, I attempt to simplify that number to its most basic form. (Maybe I look for balance in numbers too.)

So, subconsciously seeking a mathematical balance with the number 8 was one of the first things I did when unearthing my life path number.

And it was beautiful.

8 being the doubling of 4

4 being the doubling of 2

2 being the doubling of 1

This, for me, was the most profound linkage. Even as the number is broken down, it is equally balanced as the doubling of identical numbers. Perfect harmony and equilibrium as the scales that represent the libra sign. Needless to say that while I strive to achieve perfect balance in my daily life, I am still unsuccessful on that front.

I found that my balance is best expressed in matters of fairness. It is true that as a libra, I am peaceful by nature. I endeavor to create and keep the calm both internally and externally. With that being said, there is absolutely nothing in this world that disturbs my peace more than witnessing injustice. That is, in all its many forms, it is the most consequential indicator for imbalance.

I can rest assured with 8 being the number of karma in numerology. What goes around always comes back around. This calibrates an understanding within me that while justice is not swift, it will always prevail. And the scales will be balanced once more. After all, we exist in a universe governed by its own laws.

While achieving harmony is the overarching staple for the libra. It is leadership that drives the life path eight. What I have deciphered from personal growth and experience is that I am gifted as a natural leader. That is not necessarily because I aspire to lead. Instead, it is the ability to be diplomatic and leading in fairness. Weighing issues on all fronts, then finding a balanced median. Hence keeping the peace. I operate more efficiently when I compartmentalize — all leading back to the governing element of balance. Here, I found the traits associated with being libra are what I hold most valuable to my effectiveness as a leader.

The merging of the zodiac and life path allows for a more honest reflection of myself. The stars have reinforced aspects of my personality that I was already aware of. Whether the traits are positive or perceived flaws, I can reflectively account for how it impacts my life. Taking account of my own actions and reactions only revealed a deeper understanding of who I am. What motivates me, what hinders me, and my ability to find agreement amongst these things offered my life new meaning. A roadway to utilize these qualities based on my own uniqueness. Therefore finding my purpose.

So yes, while I may not be the only libra or person with the life path number 8. My goal is to activate the traits given to me by the stars in the best way only I can. It is not just what I was given, but really how I implement it, that accounts for the actual test of my individuality.

A test to display how I navigate and shape who I am. Doing so with the purpose I have been assigned. Who knows? Maybe when I have worked it all out, then I will find the balance I crave. Finding common ground as an individual with what the stars have given.

This ideal for symmetry can only amount to one thing. You guessed it — It is the libra in me!
