A husband should look attractive too—not just the wife.

It’s often observed that as men cross into their forties, they start neglecting themselves. Many begin to see themselves as beasts of burden, weighed down by responsibilities. It’s okay to carry responsibilities, but treat them as part of life’s journey and growth—not as a punishment.

In youth, most men manage to look after themselves, but as responsibilities pile up, self-care gets pushed aside. Those who do physical labor tend to ignore their appearance entirely. Discolored clothes, messy hair, unpressed shirts with dirty cuffs, and worn-out shoes become their trademark. Even office workers often appear untidy due to bulging bellies and poorly maintained outfits.

Just as looking good is a natural right for women, cleanliness and proper dressing are equally a right and need for men. Whether at home or at work, women naturally prefer well-groomed men, regardless of whether they are laborers, employees, or businessmen.

Let’s focus on the little things that often go unnoticed. These small habits can greatly contribute to building a confident and polished personality.

1. Get a haircut once a week. If you keep a beard, keeping it well-shaped is essential. Remove stray thick facial hair with threading. This way, your beard line remains neat throughout the week.

2. With age, hormonal changes can cause hair to grow thick on the earlobes. Remove this hair with thread, or it can create a negative impression.

3. Sometimes eyebrows grow a few unusually long hairs. Trim them neatly. Keep your mustache trimmed and don't forget to clip any visible nose hair with a small scissor.

4. Trim your nails every Friday—it’s also a Sunnah. Use a nail cutter to remove dead skin around your nails and heels. This not only helps hygiene but also improves how you present yourself.

5. Most men finish bathing in just two minutes. Try to add just one more minute. While shampooing, clean behind your ears and inside the folds properly. These areas often gather dirt that looks unpleasant. Use a long-handled brush for scrubbing your back with soap.

6. If you sit for long hours, belly fat begins to hang. Lift your stomach and clean underneath it thoroughly with sponge and water. The navel needs proper cleaning too, or it starts to smell bad and can cause skin infections.

7. Right after showering, clean your ears with a cotton bud. Put a drop of mustard or olive oil in your navel—it helps prevent many health issues.

8. Massage the soles of your feet and toenails with the same oil. This helps reduce headaches and can also benefit your eyesight.

9. Always wear clean and polished shoes outside. At home, your wife might wash your slippers, but you’re responsible for outdoor shoes.

10. Never drag your feet when you walk. Avoid walking like a tired mule. No woman likes to see her husband, father, or brother walking that way. Walk upright and confidently like a strong, graceful horse. If you want to rest more, do it in bed—not in your posture.

11. Do not step outside wearing shorts. Many women feel uncomfortable seeing that. While religion does not make men wear veils, it does expect some level of modesty.

12. Stop wearing pants so low that they sit on your hip bones. It looks like they’re about to fall off. Your waistband should sit just below your navel.

13. Match your shoes, socks, and tie with your clothes. These aren’t decorations to dangle meaninglessly. They are accessories meant to highlight your personality.

14. If you smoke cigarettes, cigars, or use a hookah, try to maintain a neat, personal style. Don’t puff away crudely like an uncultured person, though it’s worth remembering that smoking harms your health.

15. Use a good-quality, light perfume when going to work. Let your scent quietly announce your presence. Many of us remember the fragrance our fathers or brothers wore and would even identify their shirts by the familiar scent.

16. Pay attention to how you speak. Do you talk in jerks or drag your sentences? If so, work on controlling your tone.

17. A man’s personality gains depth and strength from a calm, well-measured voice. Don’t ruin your impression by speaking too fast.

18. Whether at home or in public, don’t blow your nose loudly or spit around. When you speak, don’t let your saliva fly in excitement.

19. Control how you eat. Avoid smacking your lips or burping loudly like an ill-mannered person. Even burping can be done with grace.

20. Avoid staring at women or making them uncomfortable. This only brings shame to you. Women feel unsafe around men who behave this way.

21. Speak less and avoid talking unnecessarily. Mystery often builds respect.

22. Now take a good look in the mirror. Do you see a graceful, well-kept man? If not, find out where you fall short—and improve it.
