Importance of obstacles in life

One day, a boy who spent his summer vacations with his grandfather said, "When I grow up, I want to be a successful man. Can you tell me some ways to be successful?"

Grandpa nodded and took the boy to a nearby nursery, where he bought two small plants. When he returned home, he planted one of the plants in a pot and kept it inside the house, and he planted another outside. Grandpa asked the boy, "What do you think will grow better in the future?" and after some contemplation, the boy answered, the one inside the house will flourish since it is safe from all threats, whereas a plant outside is vulnerable to several threats like intense sunlight, storms, and animals, etc.

When the boy returned to see his grandfather after four years, he said, "Grandpa, last time I asked you some ways to be successful but you did not tell me anything but this time you have to tell me.”

Grandpa answered, "Sure, but first let's look at plants that we bought a few years ago." He then walked the boy to a location where he had planted the plants. When they looked at the plant they had planted outside, they noticed that it had grown into a tree. Grandpa asked the boy, "Tell me which plant grew more successfully." The boy replied, "The one we planted outside," but Grandpa asked, "How is this possible? The plant must have faced so many dangers yet it grew so big." Grandpa grinned and said, "Yes, plants outside had to face many things but dealing with problems had its benefits too." In addition, plants outside had the freedom to spread their roots as much as they wanted. Problems like storms have strengthened its roots to the point where even a minor storm cannot destroy it.

If you remember this lesson from me, then you will succeed in everything you do in life. If you only make decisions that are comfortable, you will not be able to grow to your full potential. If you are prepared to face the dangers of this world, then nothing is impossible for you to accomplish. You should never view obstacles as barriers to success but rather as steps on the path to success.
