How To Trick People into Thinking You're Happy
Why are we programmed to fit into the norms of society?

So, you wake up in the morning and hear your alarm go off. You turn it off and think to yourself, "ugh another day." You finally get up after 10 minutes of pretending to sleep and scroll through our phone. So, when do you have to put your happy face on and pretend you're okay? Could it be when you step out of the house? Could it be when you answer the phone in your fake happy voice?
So, how do we trick people into thinking we're happy?
Simple. We don't.
Society has programmed us to constrict ourselves to their norms and has taught us that not being happy isn't fun to be around. But who cares, right?
Let me give you a scenario. You're on your way to work and you're late because your car broke down. So you decide to take a cab and it's been 20 minutes and you've only gotten a mile from where you were. You decide to run a few blocks thinking it'll be faster. A storm hits and you're soaking wet before you even reach your building. You finally go inside with your shoes squeaking from being so damp, get to your desk and your boss sees you and says, "Cheer up, it's just a little rain." Yeah, I wouldn't be happy either.
The question shouldn't be how do we pretend to be happy, the question is why is it so acceptable for us to act like we're happy when we're not.
From elementary school we are taught to always have a smile on our face and get along with others. In middle school and high school, we learn that we should always behave and listen to your elders. As an adult, you learn to get through your day and pretend to be happy with your life.
People around the world have mental illnesses and disorders like depression or bipolar disorder that effect our happiness and our mood. Society should let us be us and express ourselves despite our emotions.
So you know what I say?
Be sad. or even better, be angry. Be upset. Let it out. Emotion is good for the soul and letting it out helps you heal. Go get some ice cream and watch Netflix all night. Go out with your friends and have a night you don't remember. Go home and cry till you can't cry anymore.
My lesson to you is that we should all embrace our emotions. If we're not happy, who cares. We shouldn't pretend to be anything we're not.
The truth isn't always beautiful but it does give you clarity.
