How to Prepare for The End of Isolation

Get yourself ready for the new world.

The world's on pause, and so it seems each of our lives as a result. Sure, we’re all dying to unpause our lives. Let’s rather hit the reset button.

In our lifetime, if there has ever been an opportunity for personal, collective, and global change and improvement, it is now.

If it isn’t glaringly obvious to you, then you’re simply not looking in the right places. Choosing positive media while reflecting on yourself and how you lead your life are great ways to take personal inventory as well as excellent alternatives to simply letting the time pass you by.

Currently, many of us have a lot more time on our hands and fewer activities to fill that time with. As boredom sets in, it is common that when faced with the task of sitting with ourselves, many of us would rather run in another direction and escape by any means possible. Space and mind fillers such as social media, video games, Netflix, alcohol are readily available for over indulgence.

Why do we try to cure the boredom? Why do we fill this space with mind-numbing substances and activities? Don’t we all often complain that we wish we had more time on our hands to improve ourselves?

Sitting with yourself and taking inventory of your life is uncomfortable; try it for ten minutes without the distractions of technology, conversation, or tasks. Stillness and consciousness are not valued in our current mainstream, nor are these practices taught in our education system. If they were, we wouldn’t impulsively or compulsively buy the new iPhone or designer shoes or self medicate.

Fortunately, mindfulness is slowly making an appearance.

Mindfulness allows us to ask ourselves questions and perform personal assessments on how we're leading our lives and spending our time. By focusing inward, we frequently face questions we’d rather not answer; and typically avoid by continuing to scroll.

Sometimes they’re difficult questions about whether you’re living your life in alignment with your perceived values. About the things you say are important versus those your actions reveal as true priority. Truth with yourself isn’t always easy, especially when you admit you haven’t been doing what you believe to be best for yourself, others, and the planet.

So, suck it up buttercup! There couldn’t be a better time to reflect and take inventory of your life’s path pre-COVID19. It’s time to take personal inventory and be honest with yourself. In your daily pre-isolation life, it was all too easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of modern life and routine. Have you been cruising along on mental autopilot, while ignoring all that you take for granted? You know what I’m talking about: over-consuming, over-working, keeping up with the Joneses, neglecting the important relationships, supporting corrupt politicians and corporations.

If you can’t see how the human race is F’ing each other up along with the planet then just take a browse across the interwebs. As a result of COVID19, there are clear skies over otherwise smoggy cities, families becoming better connected, the Ozone layer that’s almost fully healed itself. Why is this all happening? If it’s not obvious, it’s happening because we’ve been forced to hit the pause button on our lives. The lives most of us lead unaware of our impact on ourselves, each other and the planet we’ve been given. We now have a chance to sit back and observe more deeply than ever before.

I’m not trying to say this current pandemic is a good or beneficial event, but there is an opportunity to reflect, take inventory, and set some goals for how you can shift into a more conscious and connected individual. This could be similar to making New Year’s resolutions, but with a different dynamic. We owe it to ourselves, our fellow humans, and our Earth to make this shift to mindful living.

My call to action is to take an honest look at yourself, and how you lead your life. What changes can you make when our lives resume to the “new normal”? How would hitting the reset button in your life look? Now is the best time to set some goals on how you want to be and create a plan to shift into that. If you’re not sure how to do that, help is available. Book a consultation with Life Force Coach - Kevin Venn
