How I Come Up with Tons of Writing Ideas(8 proven ways)
I have a secret weapon that will help you come up with great ideas.
Do you ever wake up in the morning and think to yourself, “I need to write something today?” And yet you don’t seem to find the time to sit down and write?
From personal experience, I know how difficult it is to come up with a great idea. Sometimes the ideas don’t even seem worth writing about. I get dozens of ideas every day.
Sometimes I write them down. Other times, I just let them go. Either way, they come and go and I’m left wondering where I’ll find more great writing content.
In the past, the only way to get writing ideas was to wait until inspiration hit you. Or you had to write something in your spare time just to keep yourself occupied while you worked on other projects.
If you’re experiencing a shortage of great writing ideas, this post will help you to think outside of the box to come up with new ideas.
Sit alone in a dark room
It’s a fact of life that when you’re sitting down to write, you often don’t want to. That’s because there’s so much to do in life that it can be very hard to focus on writing.
A lot of people who have written books or articles recommend doing so in complete darkness.
This is a good way to get your ideas flowing. When you are alone and quiet, your mind is able to wander without being interrupted by the outside world. You can lose track of time, or just give yourself permission to just be.
if you’re having trouble coming up with an idea for a blog post, you can do this exercise. Find a quiet, darkened room. Turn off your phone, put your laptop on silent, and sit there for 30 minutes.
Walk In Nature
it’s a good idea to walk around and do some “thinking”. When you are alone, your brain is naturally “walking”, which can help you think of ideas.
As many of you know, I’m a nature lover. To be honest, I’ve always enjoyed being out in nature. There’s nothing like walking through a forest and being surrounded by trees, grass, and water.
I find that a walk in nature helps to clear my head and rejuvenate my creative side. The great outdoors is a great place to come up with new ideas.
Nature is amazing because it always creates something beautiful whether it’s a sunrise, a sunset, or simply the beauty of a flower. If you spend just 30 minutes outside, you’ll end up with tons of great ideas for articles and blog posts.
Browse Through Other People’s Content
If you’re having trouble coming up with ideas, take inspiration from other people’s content. You don’t have to do the exact same thing as the writer in the piece. You can simply watch what they’ve done and learn from it.
Look at how they’ve formatted their piece, how they’ve written, and where they’ve placed their call to action.
Look at how they’ve styled their text. How they’ve written a title, what they’ve used, and how they’ve written a paragraph. While you may think it’s a cop-out, I’ve found that watching others write is extremely productive.
It’s not enough to just read their content. You must also watch how they present their posts. How do they choose images? What’s their tone? What kind of links do they use?
Find a writing prompt and run with it.
Finding a good writing prompt is the most effective way of coming up with an idea. It is easier to see the bigger picture and put words on the paper when you have a prompt to follow.
A common form of a writing prompt is a question or statement that asks the writer to come up with a creative solution. The most popular way to do this is to ask the writer to find a problem and then solve it.
While the method sounds simple, there’s more to it than meets the eye. The writer is typically not asked to solve the problem, but rather to write a story or an article that addresses the problem.
Get together with other writers
A simple way to get more writing ideas is to get together with other people who love writing. It doesn’t matter if you’re a complete novice or a seasoned pro. The only requirement is that you’re willing to write together.
There are several ways to do this. The most basic and easiest way is to join a group of fellow writers on a freelance platform.
As I’ve interacted with the Facebook group over the last year, I’ve gained valuable knowledge and advice. When I needed more information, I asked questions, and the group provided answers.
This kind of interaction has helped me build an online community, which has contributed to the growth of my online business.
Browse Through Quora
Another way to come up with ideas is to browse through Quora. As one of the largest question-and-answer platforms on the Web, Quora is filled with “experts” who are eager to share their knowledge.
Every day, I visit Quora and browse the “top questions” section to see what topics are being discussed.
When you’re browsing through Quora, you’ll quickly notice a pattern of questions and answers that are getting a lot of engagement. Topics that are receiving the most replies tend to be the most interesting, and they’ll often have answers that will provide valuable SEO tips.
You can also use Quora to find content ideas. For example, if you want to write about a specific topic, you can search for it on Quora, and then copy the link to the question and answer that you like.
TV shows
This is a tried-and-true method of finding new ideas. TV shows provide a variety of content, including characters, plots, and topics.
If you’re looking for ideas for writing topics, start by watching television. From the best-selling books and movies to the most entertaining reality shows, the library of TV programs has a wealth of topics to choose from.
This is a technique I’ve used to generate ideas for writing. I’m not alone. Some of my favorite writers are also using this method to come up with ideas.
Watching TV shows gives you an opportunity to hear other people talk about their opinions on the matter.
Ask your audience
One of the most effective ways to generate more writing ideas is to ask your audience what they would like to see.
Many companies already have some sort of “ask the audience” feature. For example, when you log into Twitter, you can see a little envelope that asks, “What are you tweeting about?”
If you have a blog, you can do something similar. When you publish a new article, you can create a poll or a survey that asks your readers for feedback. You can also create a poll or survey for your newsletter subscribers.
Asking your audience what they would like to see is a great way of getting more content written. It’s a very effective way to get the ball rolling and the content rolling.
Once you have your audience, you can ask them what they’d like to read about. The best part is that the audience can respond immediately. This way, you don’t have to worry about them having to wait a few days for you to get back to them with your reply.
