It's not easy to build a website. There are many products and services available that will help you build your website. You need to make informed decisions so you don't have to rebuild your entire website because of a design issue. You can invest very little or a lot of time to master many of these software programs. To avoid spending time on the wrong areas or learning software that is not going to help you in the future, I believe it's essential to lead people in the right direction.
The place you start depends on the task at hand and the depth you are willing to go. A basic knowledge of HTML, the ability to use a WYSIWYG editor and an image editing program will suffice for a professional looking website that is not too complex. The WYSIWYG HTML editor allows you to use HTML with little knowledge. You don't need to be an expert in HTML to create a website that looks good. WYSIWYG editors interpret what you do (inserting an example image) as a series of HTML tags and attributes. What you see on your screen will be what you get. Instead of seeing lots of HTML code in text form, you will see the HTML that actually appears in your browser after your website is built. The latest version of Dreamweaver is highly recommended. It is widely regarded as the best HTML editor by most people. Dreamweaver's interface has an easy-to-use interface, has an FTP client built in, and was specifically designed to be adaptable enough to both coders and everyday webmasters.
## Image editing? What is it used for? ##
Let's be real. If you want to create a professional looking web site, you need basic graphics that look good. While there are many graphics issues that can be solved, Adobe Photoshop is the best for power and flexibility. Adobe Photoshop is not an easy program to master, but it is very rewarding. I have used my Photoshop knowledge to create graphics for several websites, as well as flyers and business cards. It can be used for almost everything, except animation. But Adobe Imageready is also available which can be very useful with animation. This software is incredible. I highly recommend Photoshop to anyone who wants to learn any image editing software.
## Let's make some sales! ##
You can kick off your newly created web site with some sales. Pay-per-click advertising is a great way of doing that quickly. But wait! But wait! Well... Yes. However, with the tools provided by the largest pay-per-click marketers out there, we should be capable of estimating how much profit we will make without making a large investment upfront.
Pay-per-click advertising raises the question of whether it is worth the money when you can get traffic through regular search engine rankings (also known as organic traffic). There are many companies that can help you get all the traffic you want by optimizing your website for organic ranking. Answer: Profit is profit. Yahoo! offers conversion tracking tools like the one offered by Yahoo! With Google Adwords and Search Marketing, anyone can determine their profit after taking out the cost of PPC advertising. Google Adwords is my favorite PPC advertiser because of its user-friendly interface. Google Adwords' interface makes it easy to see which keywords bring you the most sales and which ones don't.
We must remember, however, that a shopping cart is essential for converting those orders. There are many software packages available, but Mal's E-Commerce Free shopping Cart has been my favorite for many years. You don't have to pay anything for the cart's server, and you can also get an SSL security ticket. There is no better deal than a free cart!
## Get those sales leads that you have been building up and make them BUY! ##
After you have made a few sales, it is a good idea for you to use some type of lead management service. Autoresponders are a great option for this purpose. Autoresponders, which are basically a sign-up for a newsletter, allow you to strategically decide what you will send to each lead after a set time. Let's take, for example, a visitor to your website and you offer them a newsletter. To get their attention, it might be a good idea to send them information only on the most important concepts first, unless you are selling a complex ebook. Slowly, but surely you can convert those visitors who have abandoned your website and never returned to it into serious income!
