HOW CAN I BE PRODUCTIVE

VALUES MAKE A DIFFERENCE

By Festus Praise LayuPublished about a year ago 4 min read

Honestly, I think it would be better to remind you of this: As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he (Proverbs 23:7). If the state of your heart is currently at the lowest, more certainly, you won’t be as productive as you ought to be. But if it is at the highest peak — choosing to be positive at all time, — productivity will automatically become a part of You; notwithstanding the circumstances of life.

Productivity is a product of continuous fulfilment of purpose in life. And fulfilling purpose is actually not achieving your goals, getting your dream car or job, having a wonderful marriage and being healthy. Rather, it is your everyday decision to be a solution provider to the world; choosing to impact lives everyday.

When you understand that you are a solution provider, then you will understand the need to be productive. You need to understand that God has destined you for greatness and to give you an expected and joyful end(Jeremiah 29:11). He wants you to be productive. Productivity is one of the essence of creation. In Genesis 1: 28, God said to man after blessing them: ‭Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

Listen, the ability to multiply the resources God has placed in your hands depicts productivity. In summary, God is saying, “Be productive” and not valueless.

More also, God has also given us a very valuable gift — which is the Brain. If you understand how powerful, beautiful and interesting the brain is, I’m very sure you won’t spend your time doing unnecessary and unproductive things. The brain is such a beautiful and special gift; a part that controls all other parts of the body; it is the basis of our mental life that regulates and relates with the mental realm.

The brain is capable of undergoing different processes in just a second. Let’s take a look at the illustration given by Dr. Ben Carson, a renowned Pediatric Neurosurgeon.

He said in one of his books titled “Gifted Hands”: and gave an illustration on how the brain accomplishes even the simplest of tasks. He asked the audience to raise up their hands if they can remember their birthdays’, and naturally, everyone raised their hands.

Then he explained the process involved in the raising of their hands.

He said: the sound waves had to leave my lips, travel through the air into your external auditory meatus, travel down to your tympanic membrane, and set up a vibratory force which traveled across the ossicles of your middle ear to the oval and round windows, generating a vibratory force in the endolymph, which mechanically distorts the microcilia, converting mechanical energy to electrical energy, which traveled across the cochlear nerve to the cochlear nucleus at the pontomedullary junction, from there to the superior olivary nucleus, ascending bilaterally up the brain stem through the lateral lemniscus to the inferior colliculus and the medial geniculate nucleus, then across the thalamic radiations to the posterior temporal lobes to begin the auditory processing, from here to the frontal lobes, coming down the tract of Vicq d’Azur, retrieving the memory from the medial hippocampal structures and the mammillary bodies, back to the frontal lobes to start the motor response at the Betz cell level, coming down the corticospinal tract, across the internal capsule into the cerebral peduncle, descending to the cervicomedullary decussation into the spinal cord gray matter, synapsing, and going out to the neuromuscular junction, stimulating the nerve and the muscle so you could raise your hand — Dr Benson Carson

Now, I want you to be more attentive. If you read through the process it takes to raise up their hands, it would have probably taken you a minute to read it. But if I may ask, how many seconds does it take you to raise your hand, when asked to do so? Can you now see how beautiful this special gift God has given to you is. Definitely, God has given to you and has put in your possession all it takes to be valuable and productive in life. And his plan is for you to be prosperous in life(3 John 2).

But more importantly, He has given us something more special, more important — something that brought about us(humans), the brain and all the things he has put in our possession.

John 1: 3–5 says, “All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. [4]In him was life; and the life was the light of men. [5] And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

God gave Himself to us. He gave us the best gift — the Holy Spirit. The scripture says, “And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters” (Gen 1: 2b). ‭And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul(Gen 2:7).

And since God loves creativity(and He’s creative as well), why should you be less? God Himself made each day count. He didn’t create you to be less! You have the the spirit of God in you, and in Him is light: that shineth in darkness. Light enhances creativity, but where is this Light? God’s word. The revelation of God’s Word is what opens your eyes and brings your mind to the circle of creativity and productivity.

The difference between a wealthy man and a poor man is information, but in the real sense(spiritually), it is the knowledge of God’s Word. Remember, the spiritual controls the physical. Information is not enough to be productive in life; God’s Word is the ultimate. So, with all the information, study and meditate on God’s Word always. Make Him your first priority in life.

Therefore, make each day count. You are not a destitute, but a productive and creative personality. And you have all that it takes to be productive: when you make God’s word your daily anchor in life.

STAY BLESSED!
