Gratitude WILL Change your Life.

Change your Perspective

By Reece JohnsonPublished 5 years ago 2 min read

Studies show that if we think of 5 things we are grateful for everyday, that our general mood and attitude about life will change more than we ever thought possible. And this year, I think we all may need this positivity back into our lives. In today’s world we often find ourselves obsessing over the things we don’t have; we compare our bodies to unrealistic standards we see on Instagram, we fantasize about living unrealistic lives that we see on social media, and we fail to notice that what we have in front of us is good enough. So to start to be grateful for things, we need to stop wanting more and be happy with what we do have. Instead of comparing our bodies and lives to instagram influencers, compare ourselves to the almost 600,000 people that will go without a place to sleep tonight in the United States. Just about the same number of people will be hungry before they go to bed tonight. Some people would do anything to have your life.

I’m making it my job to stop comparing and start loving my life with all it’s up and downs. With the dysfunction and all of the ugly, because I know that I am still luckier than most.

Today, I am grateful for the beat of my heart and the air in my lungs. I am grateful for having a roof over my head & food in my refrigerator. I am grateful for the clothing I own that have kept me warm. I am grateful for the people in my life that love me, family or not. I have chosen that no matter what obstacle, no matter how stressed out I am, no matter how many days I feel like I’m struggling to manage my life, that I have so much more to be grateful for than I do to be sad about.

A lot of us, are luckier than we know. So every morning, (if you can remember), try to think of 5 things you are grateful for. It can be as small as just being alive that morning, or your new job, or maybe that your child slept all night long and didn’t interrupt your sleep. Being grateful for the little things, will make all the stressful big things shrink, and that’s when we really realize what’s important. Gratitude will change your life.
