When you think of doing something you are half way there. It seems simple enough, doesn’t it? You have it in your mind, you can visualize the end result of your actions. Have you ever just ‘thought out’ your entire life? As you lay alone in bed, or perhaps next to your girlfriend/boyfriend or husband/wife, whatever the case may be, you picture your goals and aspirations in your mind. The degree, the car, the prestige, the fame, the fortune, need I say more? But there is one issue here, the DOING part.
Is it procrastination? Is it anxiety? Depression or ADD/ADHD? I’ll narrow it down to pure distraction.
Distractions come into our lives in many forms. We have to learn how to start taking action in order to fulfill our goals and desires. I learned this as a late bloomer, a last-minute type of guy. I always find an excuse to wait. Why not seize the moment while you have the opportunity to? Would you let a hundred-dollar bill on the floor escape your grasp despite no one or no thing impeding you from obtaining it? The biggest obstacle in our lives is ourselves.
I suffer from anxiety disorders, depression, PTSD you name it. And, it was not until recently that I gained enough courage to finally start writing. My whole life (I’m 35 years young) I’ve been told of how great I am and how much I could accomplish, yet I sat there doing nothing. Wasting time. My friends the time is now. We live once. I don’t know what happens when we die and I hope its something amazing that no one could imagine, but for now, lets focus on the now. Get the degree you’ve been waiting for. Take baby steps, one class at a time if needed. Worry not about others but about your own path in life which is unique. Try to forgive yourself for mistakes you have made. Its ok, get up and keep walking towards your goals, heck, RUN towards them. Because time is running out. Time is of the essence. Take a moment and start that project that you have been putting off. Write that poem, write that song. Pursue that love interest, forgive someone who you said you could never forgive. Lift the weight of your shoulders. Prove to no one but yourself that you are worthy and capable. Stop thinking about it and start doing it. Till next time.
