Finding Motivation when Quarantine Leaves You Purposeless
Life came to a halt. Does this mean that your purpose does too?
We are living in a period of history that we never imagined. Instead of New Years Resolutions, we were hit with a global pandemic, followed by a Stay-At-Home Order. We were forced into being still, into stopping our lives. But does this mean that our purpose in life has to come to a halt as well?
Remember first that feeling lost is completely normal in this situation. Accept what is happening and make space for it, even if you don't want to. In order to survive this season of isolation, you need to find balance.
Since we have no idea when this will end, it seems only right to keep up with habits, routines, and schedules as best as we can. Again the motivation part is the hardest part of getting into the "new norm".
Once you have acknowledge how you are feeling, you make space for finding your way out.
But where do we begin?
1. Keep a Routine
Although this time is one that should be used for rest, we have to consider the amount of something we have. Rest is great... in moderation. This is something that is extremely important to remember throughout this quarantine.
Things are great... in moderation.
By keeping a routine, even if its just a morning or night routine, you are keeping the balance that is essential in this period of time.
2. Challenge Yourself
If you are finding you're struggling to keep yourself accountable during this time, you are not alone. Before, our outside responsibilities and commitments kept us accountable. Now, those things that tied us to a certain thing, like a gym membership or strict deadlines for example, are a thing of a past.
Challenging yourself, or even your friends/family to do whatever the challenge is with you, can make a huge difference one your outlook.
The majority of people do not like to disappoint themselves or others.
You can start simple. One thing we can all do still is get outdoors fresh air or vitamin D. Going for a simple walk around the neighborhood, or just moving your body for 10-30 minutes a day can really help give you that extra boost to finish the day strong, and clear your head.
3. Understand Your Limits
This can most definitely be a time for self-reflection and improvement, but it can also serve as a time of stillness. You don't have to do what other people are doing on social media. As long as you feel you are finding balance without being left in a constant state of hopelessness, purposelessness, or boredom, you are doing fine.
If however you are struggling with these feelings, don't hesitate to reach out to someone, whether it be a friend, family member, or even calling a hotline. We are in this together.
