Dying for a Chance

One time, a man got lost in the desert. Whatever little food and water he had with him, that all got finished. From last two days, he didn’t even had a single drop of water.

He knew if he don’t find water soon, he gonna die in some hours. Still, a tiny hope was alive in him. So he kept searching. He didn’t gave up.

He believed there gotta be water somewhere. Then suddenly he saw a hut. At first, he didn’t trust his own eyes.

Before too, he got fooled by those desert mirages. But this time, he had no choice but to believe it. This was maybe his last hope.

He gathered his last bit of strength and walked towards the hut. The closer he got, the more his hope grew. This time, luck was with him. The hut was actually real.

But when he entered inside, it was empty. Like no one been there in years. Still, with the hope of water, he stepped in.

Inside, he got surprised. There was a hand-pump for water. Just seeing that gave him new energy. He ran to it and start pumping like crazy.

But the pump was dry. Looks like it wasn’t used since long time. Feeling hopeless, he just fell on the ground. Now he was kinda sure he gonna die here.

At that moment, he saw a bottle hanging from the roof. Somehow he managed to reach it. He was just about to drink it when he saw a note sticked on it. The note said:

“Pour this water into the pump so it can work. And don’t forget to refill the bottle for next person.”

He got confused. Should he drink this water and save his own life? Or pour it in the pump, hoping it will work?

So many thoughts rushed in his mind. What if pump don’t give water? What if the note was fake and there’s nothing underground? But what if pump works? What if it gives lots of water? He was stuck between fear and hope.

In the end, he decided to trust the note. His hands was shaking but he still poured the whole bottle into the pump.

Then he started pumping… with hope.

After few tries, water started flowing. Cold, fresh water! He drank as much as he wanted. His head felt clear, his body felt alive again.

He filled the bottle again with water and hanged it back just like the note said.

While looking around, he saw another glass bottle. Inside it was a pencil and a map showing how to get out of the desert.

He memorized the way, kept the map there, filled his own water bottles and got ready to leave.

After walking little distance, he stopped and turned back to look at the hut. He paused, thought for a second, then walked back and wrote on the note:

“Trust me, this pump really works!”

Life can be tough. Sometimes hope feels useless, and giving up seems easier. But hope is what keeps us going. Taking a chance is scary because there’s no promise it’ll work. But without trying, nothing changes. It takes courage to trust when you’re not sure, to give everything you have even when you might lose. But that one brave step can change everything. If you choose to hope, you give yourself a chance—not just to survive, but to really live. Don’t be afraid to take that chance. Sometimes it’s the only way to find what you’re looking for.
