Dreams can come true
A thought is not an action until you put it in motion
What the hell was that? Kendall said as she sat up in the bed, she was sweating and her heart was beating like she had just ran a marathon. Steadying herself she swung her legs off the bed. That was a weird dream or was it a nightmare? When she caught her breath and slowed her heart rate, Kendall eased herself off the bed. Slowly standing she walked to the bathroom, looking into the mirror her hazel brown eyes stared back at her confused and unsure of what that dream or nightmare meant.
After a rough start to her morning Kendall was finally relaxed and on her way to work, she loved her job because she got to meet new people, hear about there adventures, places they have been, the different types of people they've met and the food they have eaten. That was the life she always dreamed of. When she was kid, Kendall always day dreamed about traveling to new places, seeing new things, experiencing different cultures and foods and imagining what it was like to be some one else. She would sit for hours in front of the television watching travel and food channels or staring out the window pretending she was somewhere else, being someone else and doing anything adventures. Her mother would always called her a dreamer, when she caught her staring off into space, dreamers always dream but never do she would say. Well I guess that stuck Kendall said under her breath as she pulled into her parking spot at work. Well I guess that stuck Kendall said under her breath as she pulled into her parking spot at work
Her first appointment at 9:30 arrived. Good morning Mr. and Mrs. Austen How are you both doing this morning? Mr. Austen, who was much more of a talker then his wife, spoke and said "Excited for this trip we're about to book!" Trying to hide the envy in her voice, so where are you two going this time? even though Kendal was a bit envious she always got so much excitement for the Austen's trips. It was just last month she booked them a trip to Bora Bora. We are going to the Maldives! Mrs. Austen spoke this time, her face was filled with such animation and her smoky grey eyes was filled with excitement like a child who just got exactly what they wanted on Christmas, she was practically bouncing in her chair.
The Maldives? This is where Kendall always dreamt of going, she fantasized about it every since she came to work for Wonderful Travels. It was the first trip she booked for a client 3 years ago. Mrs. Juanita George was her name. That was her first vacation trip she had ever taken out of her 60 years of life. She was a retired E R nurse, worked for 55 years and never had a vacation. her husband Leroy of 30 years had passed away and was a home body and didn't really care for traveling. Kendall remember that day and how tired Mrs. George looked when she sat at her desk. I just want to get away. All my life I always dreamed of traveling, but never got around to it. Echoed in Kendall's head was her mothers voice...dreamers always dream but never do. Why do you want to go to the Maldives Kendall asked Mrs. George? I consider myself a foodie and I heard they have an underwater restaurant and I have never ate under water before. Mrs. George was going for 7 day,6 night vacation. Kendall also remembered her face when she returned from her trip, it was not tired looking, it was peaceful and refreshed. Mrs. George spoke about the white sandy beaches, how the water was so clear it was like looking in a mirror, the food was a mixture of sweet and spicy and how it has all mixed races of people and cultures. It was like Mrs. George was transporting her there and she could see everything, the beaches, the water, the people and taste the food
Kendall could remember that moment like it was yesterday. I am so excited Mrs. George all but squealed, I hear that they have a spot where you could eat your food and see the food as it swim by you underwater. Now there was envy in her voice "Yes I hear it is a beautifully cultured place and the underwater restaurant is spectacular as well as there food. I hear it's very pricey Mr. Austen piped in. As Kendall peered up from her computer screen, she saw the look his wife gave when said " You can afforded dear." Well hell I know I can, he replied with his lips bottom lip slightly poked out.
Is this a sign or something? It's 5:00 already, Kendall had booked 7 out of the 10 clients she saw today and 5 of which booked trips to the Maldives, how unusual was that. That has never happened out of the 13 years she worked as a travel agent.
As Kendall was shutting down her computer for today, Her boss Mr. White calls her to come to his office before she leaves. Yes she said as she stood in his doorway, come in and have a sit, this will only take a moment. When seated he opened up his bottom draw and pulled a bubble mailer size envelope and handed it to her. Looking perplexed she accepted the envelope. Turning it over and over in her as if she wasn't quite sure what to do with, Kendall looked up at her boss and asked why did he give this to her, without a thought he said I didn't. Mr. White saw the she was still looking and waiting for a different answer, It was delivered by a messenger early this morning and that is all I know ,to dismiss her before she could ask anymore questions he told her goodnight and turn his back to face the computer. Good night she said and exit out the door to get in her car to go home.
Sitting in her car Kendall took the time to really look at the envelope and there it was, her name bold as day written in black marker KENDALL MOSES. Still not sure what to do with it, she laid it in the passenger side and drove home.
Her nightmare came back as she sat at her dinner table staring intensely at the package with her name on it. It was actually a dream she had for her entire adult life, the voice of her mother singing in her ear dreamers dream but never do. Kendall knew she was dreamer, it was safe and you could never be disappointed. She could dream she's any place in the world she wanted to be, even with her discount as a travel agent she couldn't afford the exotic trips she wanted to take. She face the fact she'll have to live vicariously through stories from her clients. I've done for years already she shouted out loud to no one.
Grabbing the package off the table and heading for her bedroom. Kendall sat crossed leg on her bed and opened the envelope, taking a deep breath she slid her long manicure fingers in and pulled out a little black book the size of a journal, soft to the touch, an elastic closure band and it felt so perfect in her hand. It looked as though a couple of pages had been written on. Kendall flip to the first page, oh nice quality paper and thick too. The pages were all lined and someone did write in it. You may not remember me, it is has been a while since we first met, but I have never forgotten you. I booked a vacation through your company and you were the agent. You had so much excitement in your eyes as we talked and planned my trip. You knew more about my destination then I did and if I hadn't asked, I would have thought you been there before. I saw the look of disappointment and hurt in your eyes when you told me you haven't. I asked you why are you a travel agent but never travel? You simply said I dream to one day. Maybe I'll put it on my bucket list. It made me so sad to here some one so young and still full of life say that. You are a dreamer and I could see and hear that as we planned my trip, your imagination can take you many place...in your mind and can also leave you trapped and stuck.
Kendall felt the tears stream down her face but she kept reading. the writer said that she had gotten sick 18 months after her trip and was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer and was put on chemo and radiation for 6 months. It didn't help the cancer had spread all over her body. Kendall dropped the little black book and sobbed heavily for this woman. The pain she most be going through, picking back up the book she continue to read. It was as though the woman knew, don't cry or feel bad for me, I had a good life, a great job that I loved a wonderful husband and because of you a great first and last vacation. I think I got more joy out of my trip to Maldives while talking to you about it when I came back, it was like I was reliving my first impression of this island all over again. Inhaling deeply, she knew this was Mrs. George and she cried some more
Mrs. George finally words to me. A dream is something greatly desired, while you're sleeping or wide awake known as a daydream. Just because you like to dream doesn't mean that is all you are or meant to be. Your dreams will always be dreams until You make it a reality. Placing the ribbon bookmark back in it's place, I laid down with the little black book across my chest, closing my eyes I replayed Mrs. George words over and over in my mind.
I must've falling asleep. I shoot up in my bed when I heard this loud thud hit my bedroom floor. It had gotten darker, Kendall look towards her clock on the dresser, 11:45 it read. The book had fallen opened and there was a white letter inside one of the pockets. Turning on her light she reached down and picked it up. On the front it said open me, with a little chuckle Kendall did. In the letter it stated the Mrs. George lost her battle with breast cancer and had passed away 3 weeks ago at the young age of 63 and she left behind no living relatives. Tears begin to fall again, the last time she saw her she looked exuberantly full with life, youthful even and now she's gone. The letter went on to say the Mrs. George had a finally request that was meant to be fulfilled by a Ms. Kendall Moses. looking in the letter's envelope there was a first class plane ticket for Maldives!
I don't know what to say, I can't believe this! Where would I stay that I can afford! Panic wanted to set in but Kendall was filled with so much joy she was dancing and jumping all around her bedroom, she jumped on her bed and the manila envelope flew up in the air and the remaining contents scattered on the bed. Stopping dead in her tracks Kendall looked down and saw 5 stacks of bills that had bands that said $10,000 dollars on it and with it was another letter. It was hand written by Mrs. George that simply said you have one life to live! So go live the life you dream and not dream the life you want
