Do Simple Better.

Don't get caught up in the nonsense

By Connor WarmanPublished 5 years ago 2 min read

How often is it nowadays that we see people overreact to things?

You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out that people are overreacting to nearly everything on a daily basis. All you have to do is simply turn on the news(Yikes I said it) or open up your favorite social media app. Overreaction is all around us. Sometimes overreaction and outrage are justified, sure. But 9.9/10 it is better to be cool, calm, and collective. Or level-headed as I like to say. Not to get too deep down this rabbit hole but society and the culture today want us to be outraged. They want us to overreact and constantly be in a state of stress. Weird, huh? I thought they were supposed to inform and help us? Nope, welcome to 2020. Advertisers are always pushing us for the latest quick fix or claiming they have all of the answers to your most pressing problems. Unfortunately, we live in a world that pushes masks and social distancing over consistent and sustained health and fitness. We live in a world that pushes us every day to put a bandaid over a broken ankle. Nobody wants to talk about the basics and what will really help you because we're too scared to offend one another even if the advice could possibly save your life.

I'm going to stop now before I get myself into some serious trouble...

Anyway, my point today is that we need to do simple better. Don't go out looking for a crazy program that promises to get you ripped in 30 days. Instead, try a more sustainable health and fitness routine that will keep you in great shape all of the time. Not just for a week or two. Don't go out and find a nutrition coach or buy-in to some crazy crash diet. Try cutting out all of the crap in your diet first and try a diet of mostly whole foods. Don't jump off the deep end right away and try and wake up at 4 AM every morning. Slowly ease your way into it and start with doing that one or two days a week, then three, then four, etc.

You see, we need to get better at the simple things and stop trying to do it all at once. Create sustainable habits that will last, ease ourselves into things, and allow our bodies and minds to adapt to what we're putting them through. Don't let the society that is pushing you to overreact force you into dumb programs or spend dumb money on things that won't actually change or help you. Way too many people try and start things that are way too hard for them to sustain and they ultimately get discouraged and they quit. Then they look up and wonder why the world seems to always be against them.

Simple isn't sexy and that's part of the problem. Everybody wants what looks nice and cute on paper. We want what we perceive to be the "easiest" way forward. The path of least resistance as I like to call it. But that's bullshit. And you know what? I'll take the girl who can do the simple things right for years and years versus the guy who can only be committed for days or weeks at a time because, in the end, that girl will win 9.9/10.

Do simple better.

Create sustainable habits.

Don't think you will climb the mountain tomorrow.

Take consistent small steps every single day.

Get After It.
