Dialogue of the break
An anecdote of meaningful silence

1. The pull of an invisible thread
Only a few minutes left until 6 pm. Isha was sitting by the window watching the people on the street. Everyone was in a hurry to return home after work. In this busy city, Isha was like a frozen moment.
The sun was disappearing in the sky in the distance. At that juncture of light and darkness, she unknowingly went back to the pages of memory. It has been three years since Aniket left. Without saying a word. Leaving only a letter:
"I can't bear this silence anymore."
That letter is still in Isha's drawer. But that day, Aniket didn't understand that not saying anything can be a language.

2. Behind the words
Isha used to speak little since childhood. Her parents often said, "Speak a little more. If you stay so quiet, people will think you're arrogant."
But no one knew the storm of words that would rise inside Isha. She would just wait for the right moment. Once, a friend at school said, "When you suddenly say something, it seems like you've thought it through. Not like us, rambling."
Isha just laughed.
This habit of staying silent also carried over into Isha's work life. When everyone was talking excitedly in meetings, Isha would sit quietly. And when everything stopped, she would say something in two sentences that would stick in everyone's mind.
3. The language of pauses
This morning too, everyone was busy in the office meeting about a new project. Ideas were coming from all sides, arguments were going on. Isha just listened. Finally, the director asked, "Isha, what is your opinion?"
Suddenly, silence fell in the room. Everyone started waiting. Isha was silent for a while and then slowly said, "If we had understood the client's needs a little better, then this argument wouldn't have been necessary."
Everyone was surprised. Because Isha had said exactly what no one had thought of until now.

4. The Art of Silence
The phone's ringtone brought Isha back to the present. Reluctantly, she picked up the phone.
"Hello, Isha?"
"Yes, tell me."
"I'm Tanu. Your old colleague."
Isha was slightly startled. Tanu? The one who had first joined the office two years ago. She used to make a fuss with everyone, but she would avoid Isha whenever she saw her. One day she said, "Why don't you say anything? Why are you so serious all the time?"
"What's the matter, Tanu? How are you?"
"Fine," Tanu paused. "Actually... I'm going to give a speech at a conference, and I'm feeling very nervous. I want to learn how you used to sit there and grab everyone's attention."
Isha's face lit up with a smile. "So you've figured it out after all these years?"
"Yes," Tanu said. "Being silent can also be a strength."
5. Meaningful pause
That day, Isha had explained to Tanu the importance of pausing before speaking. The power of listening attentively. And most importantly—the importance of saying something meaningful when you speak.
"Everyone only wants to hear themselves. But when you listen, you learn to understand," Isha said.
Isha was thinking these words while sitting at the dinner table. Suddenly, the doorbell rang. Who could be coming so late at night?
Isha was shocked when the door opened. Aniket...!
6. Wordless dialogue
"Can I come in?" Aniket asked.
Isha left the door and stood back. He didn't say anything. He knew that silence was the biggest question now.
Aniket came in and sat down. For a while, both of them were silent. That silence carried three years of distance, pride, and loneliness.
"I misunderstood," Aniket finally said. "I thought your silence was reluctance. But in these three years, I have understood that not everything needs to be said in words."
Isha remained silent again. She just looked at Aniket. Tears welled up in her eyes.
"I have learned the language of your silence," Aniket said slowly. "Now tell me, can I come back?"
7. The melody of the break
A lot has happened since then. Today, both Isha and Aniket understand—just as words are necessary in a relationship, so are breaks. When that break is meaningful, that becomes the deepest dialogue.
New office colleagues are often surprised to see that Isha and Aniket sometimes sit for hours, without uttering a single word. Yet an invisible dialogue continues between them.
"What do you do in such silence?" a colleague asked one day.
Isha smiled and said, "We hear the dialogue of the breaks."
8. Final words
This evening, Isha and Aniket are standing on the balcony watching the sunset. The noise of the city is gradually fading. Somewhere in the distance, a bird is calling, returning home.
"You know," Aniket said, "I think we all need a little more break in our lives. To listen to ourselves."
Isha nodded. Then she slowly said, "Not just ourselves, but others too."
And then the two of them fell into a meaningful silence. Because they know that not all deep feelings can be expressed in words.
And it is in those breaks that the most valuable dialogues in life are hidden.
