Lurking in the Shadows

This is a monster that does not care about race, age, gender, sexual orientation, values, religion, all the things that differentiate us, and make us who we are. It is looming right in the air, waiting for you to forget to sanitize your hands or wear a mask. The predator invisible and the prey at his mercy. Never giving up or surrendering. And if he gets you, no idea how hard he will hit you, will you be able to rehabilitate in a few days or will it result in your death, becoming just like the thing that brought you to this outcome... invisible.

Is it worth it? Complete and utter solitude to save yourself from a disease that has killed so many. Becoming a shell of the person you were once, just being petrified of absolutely everything, paranoid of the unknown, the what could happens. Becoming a vessel of negativity and pessimism, having drained your personality of hope which is at the heart of humanity.

Instead, I feel like if you do that, become a hermit and just wait for the bad then you're letting it win. The honest to God truth is that bad will always come, irrelevant to the fact that you are ready for it or not, so you might as well live your best life and hope that when the bad comes you are strong enough to make it to the other side intact.

There is a difference between being neglectful and being too paranoid, you should be right in the middle. You should wash your hands and wear a mask yet, you shouldn't be too scared to leave your house. Maintaining your mental health is just if not more important than maintaining your physical health. Humans are social creatures it is not natural for them to stay away, locked away all by their lonesome. Having a social life is detrimental in keeping you sane and mentally healthy.

None of us really know when we will resume back to 'normal' or even if that is achievable. This type of life is the new normal and the faster that it is accepted the faster you can accomplish the most.

I was completely yanked out of my life's usual environment and just thrown into this one. However, I'm realizing just now how grateful I should be for being able to have this year. The kinds of exposure and eye-opening experiences I've had I wouldn't trade for anything. I've become so much more knowledgeable on so many subjects. Politics, medical happenings, corruption, and herd immunity are just some of the many. Herd immunity is the socio-medical phenomena that if a certain percentage of the population has been vaccinated then the weaker members are better protected and kept safer. There is less chance of them getting sick, just like the percentage that has already been vaccinated and immune they, too, become like them. Learning about the world in order to make it a better place is something that everyone as an individual person living all together in this world should be vigilant about.

Comparatively, I also got the chance to cultivate some of my hobbies. I love to bake and cook and this year with not much going out I got to develop my skills and I mastered a couple of amazing dishes. Creme brulee, tiramsiu, and chicken piccata. A famous saying that I always like to remember is 'baking is a science and cooking is an art'. I aspire that one day I reach a point where I have acquired the ability to just step into the kitchen and I can just piece together something yummy and scrumptious, no recipes needed.

Looking on the positive side covid has taken a lot but also given the chance to get a lot. We should always remember to be grateful and my only hope is that everyone stays safe and healthy and that the world resumes back to its new 'normal' as soon as possible.
