Before You Can Train Your Body
You Must Train Your Mind

I know it sounds cliché, but there is truth to the majority of the cliché's you read daily. For example, "You are what you eat," is undeniably true. Just ask anyone who's diet was full of high fat and high carbs, that just had a heart attack. The doctor will advise them to avoid some or most of the foods they ate before because those foods made their arteries fatty and their body overweight for their frame. So they become like the animals that eat vegetables and live accordingly. This way of living helps them live longer and have a more livable life. Such is true with the saying, "Before you can train your body, you must train your mind." A person's mental view of a thing determines how they react to, act, or treat a thing. If you are aware of how you think of a thing, you can easily choose how to feel about it. Take for instance, the person we just spoke of. They are now required to eat predominantly vegetables and fruits. If this person has a childhood love of cookies and candy that followed them until adulthood, this will be more difficult even when faced with a dire situation. They may start eating the right foods for them in the beginning of their healthy journey, but they slowly reintroduce sweets and other mentally satisfying foods that do not agree with their body. And as time goes by, they end up eating the same or more of the foods that caused them the heart attack the first time. And the course for them, may end of the same as before or worse. But if they choose to first view how they loved sweets as a time of immaturity where they were unaware of what their body needed; they may begin to choose different. That first step is the hardest, where you have to take responsibility for your actions. And if those actions started as a youth, it can be even more difficult. But with time and practice, it can be accomplished. But as for our example person, they do not stop there. They also begin to read health inspired books and take a few classes that they enjoy, inviting friends to go along with them. They indulge in other types of treats including massages and other stimulating gifts. Before you know it, they are excited about exercising three times a week, eating a more balanced diet and being social with people who enjoy being healthy as well. The people that dine at restaurants with them are also eating a healthy diet and they converse about the different foods they like to eat. They are also able to keep each other accountable which is a great tool to have as a resource. That is now their new norm. Choosing to look at how we view something mentally first can help you break any type of negative habit you may have formed even as a child. That is why it pays to be aware of how you think. You can do this simply by jotting down notes, reading books that you enjoy and participating in activities that keep your mind mentally fit. You can also do as our example friends and find new friends that enjoy doing what you’re trying to do. They will keep you motivated to continue your path. So, while you may not agree with using cliché’s every time, they pop up on your social media feed, try to see if they hold truth, like this one here. It might be the difference between living a normal life that could be great or living a healthy life as opposed to being unhealthy.
