If you want to be strong learn to enjoy being alone" because "sitting alone is better than walking with wrong people
- Gautama Buddha
This post talks about why you need to spend some time in isolation and how important it is to practice solitude?
1. The purpose of being alone
Even after being surrounded by many friends and people, do you feel alone?
Many people may know you, but none of them understands you deeply, and that is why you may like being alone.
Or maybe you're afraid of being alone, so you stick with your friends, family, and even toxic relationships.
Many people relate being alone to being weak.
That is why we are taught to adjust to toxic relationships and society even if it lowers our self-confidence and makes life miserable. All of this is just because they think being alone is not good.
But the truth is, the higher your ambitions, the more people will not understand you because of the differences in thought process and mindset.
What if I say solitude could become your power, and if you understand its importance, then you can live with more clear vision.
Loving solitude doesn't mean it's wrong to be around people. It is about showing you solitude can also be powerful. Without self-sabotage, you can make yourself powerful and be happy about it.
2. Importance and challenges of being alone
When you have a certain destination in your mind, the first question you ask yourself is why do you want to go there?
Likewise, it's essential to know why practicing solitude and being alone is important.
Research of the University of California Santa Cruz says instead of spending your time with gadgets, and other people, spend it with yourself. It could be more beneficial.
As an individual, spending time with others is important, but it is also important how mentally and emotionally stable you are.
Some highly successful people and even athletes understand the importance of solitude and being alone.
Bill gates, a highly successful billionaire, also goes away two times a year for one week, away from friends, family, and business. He calls it a think week, where he read books, thinks and writes his thoughts, and tries to understand himself a little better.
But why most people cannot do this and why instead of taking it positively, they take it negatively.
This is because when you sit alone for a longer duration, negative thoughts start appearing and maybe you don't want to face them, that is why you always stay with someone all the time, maybe your friends, looking into a phone or with someone where you aren't alone.
But if you enjoy your own company, you'll be able to understand yourself better, and you'll be more happy.
Those who do not understand themselves, they lose confidence and potential.
They're not only dependent on someone else for their happiness, but they try to find the meaning of their life in others' actions.
Now the question comes how do you spend time with yourselves, and instead of trying to find love and acceptance in others, how do you start loving yourselves.
3. Ways to enjoy your own company and solitude
Your happiness is entirely dependent on yourself.
Being lonely and practicing solitude are two different things. Loneliness gives you negativity, sadness, and anxiety, whereas solitude gives you mental clarity and helps you understand better.
While practicing solitude, these are the things you can do and enjoy your own company:
Hobbies: The first thing you can do is find your hobbies. Everybody has hobbies like singing, dancing, drawing, reading and so on, which at some point you forget as you grow older. Since you're practicing solitude, this is really helpful. You'll definitely enjoy doing the work you like.
You can also start learning a new skill, for example, painting, photography and so on. Something that you always wanted to learn, but you couldn't find time for it.
You need to figure out how you can best utilize your time. Instead of losing yourself in the chaos of the world, try to find your true self in solitude.
Solitude is the best ingredient for the creativity, which unfortunately is underrated
- Susan Cain, the author of the book 'Quite'

If you're afraid of facing your truth, you run away from being alone. Because when you're alone, all the feeling that you resist until now begins to pop up, which can be uncomfortable. But this uncomfortable feeling then becomes your source of growth.
The way to heal a wound is to feel the wound
When you can feel the pain, that is only when you can take it out from deep within. So if you want to live a healthy and happy life, then it's important for you to know yourself, feel your thoughts and emotion by practicing solitude.
So try to take out time and start practicing solitude and see for yourself how powerful and emotional stability you feel.
