An about you to help you learn about yourself

If you have had to never really answer this question then how do you know? I am not talking about what you do as a career like a writer. That is just part of who you are if you want to use that. What else makes you the person you are?

Ever since I went into an outpatient drug abuse program this is something they ask you when you start to become sober. When you are using, you lose a big part of yourself. Depending on how long you have been using, you could totally lose who you are altogether and the drugs consume your every breathing and waking moment.

For sober people going through job interviews, this is hard enough to answer when you have been living your life not really knowing the person you are, it is just hard to put into words sometimes. Hard to describe yourself sometimes.

So I had to do some serious soul searching. Over the years I had become unable to work due to my back. I use to be a nursing assistant and loved the job. Even after looking back, that was not who I was. If you want to really find out who you are look at every aspect of your life and put all those things together, plus the things in your past, and there you have who you are... possibly.

For example. For me I was a nursing assistant, I am a recovering addict, a mother, a grandmother, a wife, an animal lover, a writer, a fisher, a cooker, and a crocheter. I am a great friend and a good listener, and I could go on. Even though these are things about me, these things also make up the person I am. I can look at my past and look at the hurt I have gone through and know those things made me who I also am today. I may not be a wonderful person today without those terrible things that happened in my past. Think they make me have a much bigger heart for those who are going through some of the things I had gone through. 

Look deep down at yourself. What type of person are you? Who are you? I have seen some really great about you pages that really tell who a person is. You have to remember you are never just your career, you are much more than that. I know sometimes you feel that is all you are because you live at your job… I remember those days lol. Still does not define you as a person. Could say you're a hard worker. 

Not saying that you need to make a whole new about you page that is not what this is about. This is just saying look deep down into your soul. Can you describe yourself as a person? Can you describe what makes you tick or what makes you the way you are? Is it your past? Maybe it is your future and you're going to college to become a doctor. Just remember you are never just one word and if that word comes from someone disrespecting you, calling you a low life B, so… you can be in their eyes but you know you are so much more than that. 

Never let any person put you down. Just know from hearing that from them, you can see what type of person they are and know it is something you have to ignore, they just want to hurt you. Don't let them, you know who you are and it is not what they say.

Search deep. And Try not to lose yourself along that journey of searching for who you are.
