It was a cold summer night. As the breeze wisped through the maple trees it caused the shadows cast by the moonlight to form shapes of large creatures. The park bench that Victoria sat on also reflected the moonlight off of the shiny waterproof coating. She often walked to the park after the sun had set and the darkness had begun to fill the sky. Victoria was a self-proclaimed insomniac because when she would try to calm down her mind she would find a plethora of new thoughts flood in. Her late-night walks soothed her mind, and she felt her connection to the earth best at that time. The wind blew a strong gust which caused her long red hair to blow right into her face. Once the wind ceased, she slowly brushed away her hair and placed it behind her right ear. She had been sitting there for almost an hour now just admiring the sky and basking in the moonlight.

"I should really get home now," Victoria said as she looked down at her watch that said it was 1:11 am. She rose from the park bench.

Another strong gust of wind blew, this time even mightier than the first which almost caused her to lose her balance. A loud thud was heard from her left side where the paved path was. A feeling of fear and curiosity overtook her. She began to walk toward the sound, taking her first step off of the grass onto the path. Something fell onto the ground. She could tell it was coated in leather by the way the moonlight reflected off of the item. She walked toward it and reached down to grab it. It was then just 5 inches away from her face, her blue eyes were as wide as could be showcasing her curiosity.

"It's a little book." She stated as she flipped the item over to see the black leather-coated binding and to see the back was coated in the same leather.

She began to flip through the first few pages which just had lots of scribbles in black pen, looking almost like cursive. She continued to page through the book but slower that time.

She came to a page that said 'Your life will change, it is just a matter of what you are willing to do to achieve that change'

The hair began to rise on the back of her neck, she was hesitant to flip to the next page. She looked around to see if anyone was there, but there was no one. She looked back in the book and flipped to the next page.

'This will solve all of your problems' That time it was written in all caps, in bright red marker.

"What problems?" she scrunched her face in confusion.

She began to recount the problems in her life, the exact problems she escaped from in the middle of the night. Her family was having money issues. Her father lost his job after an accident and it left him wheelchair-bound. Victoria had to abandon her college degree to come back home to take care of her father. She snapped back to reality after she felt a teardrop fall from her face onto the page.

The tear began to glow, a bright blue shimmer. It expanded to cover the whole page and new words began to appear.

'Make a wish' appeared in beautiful blue cursive writing.

"Is this for real?" She didn't know how to feel.

More writing began to appear, 'Yes' and she knew right then that she needed to take a shot.

"I wish that my father's accident never happened" she closed her eyes but did not feel anything different. She opened her eyes once again to see more writing, 'We cannot change what has already been done, only change things now'

She felt sad but knew what to wish for then.

"I wish that everything could be better now" She closed her eyes again and felt a strong gust of wind blowing through her hair. She opened her eyes again and found herself in her bed at her father's home. Blinded by the sun that peeked through the window.

"Victoria!" Her father exclaimed from the next room.

She rushed out of bed almost falling over from how fast she was moving. Her father sat at the dining table in his wheelchair with a piece of paper in his hand and a tear rolling down his cheek.

"What's wrong dad?" she said panic-stricken.

"Nothing is wrong, this came in the mail." He shook the letter.

"All of my hospital bills have been paid," He said as he picked up another letter.

"All of the missed mortgage payments have been made" He used his other hand to brush through his long sandy brown hair.

"And this is for you, I'm sorry that I opened it. I figured it was a school bill" He said extending his arm with another paper towards her.

Victoria grabbed the paper and began to read. It said that her school payments had been made and that she would be accepted for fall admission at no cost all because of a generous benefactor. She was overwhelmed with emotions, she walked towards her father to hug him. Then, the mail slot shuttered. They looked towards each other in confusion, furrowing their eyebrows. She turned away from the table and walked down the hallway to the front door and saw a blank white envelope. Victoria reached down to grab it and tore it open. It was a check, for $20,000 addressed to her.

Thanks to that small black book, her life could get back on track. Her father could destress his body and focus on recovering. That small black book was a miracle, she only wished she knew who sent it and what she had to do next.
