30 Journal Entries for Self Discovery - Day 2
What are ten life lessons you've learned so far?

This is day two of my self-discovery journal entries. If you're following along, I thank you. I also kind of wonder why follow my posts? But I've definitely followed weirder blogs. Thanks for sticking with me to day two! Here's my quote for today: "If I waited for perfection, I would never write." —Margret Atwood
DAY TWO: What are 10 lessons you've learned about life so far?
- Life is unfair. Pretty much learned this at a very early age but I think it's important. It's also a lesson that pretty much everyone will learn a couple times throughout their lifetime. However, I think it's something everyone needs to learn how to accept.
- Bitches get shit done. Being nice is great and you should definitely be kind to people. But if you want to get ahead, at some point in time, you're going to have to be a bitch. I'm glad I learned this one. It took me a loooonnnnnngggg time, but if I hadn't learned it, I wouldn't be where I am today. Which... isn't saying a whole lot, but it's kind of sad how long this lesson took to learn.
- Talking to your parents is never a waste of time. My dad has taught me more than anyone in this world. That's saying something because we didn't speak for almost a whole year at one point. He is my best friend and even when we just have silly, stupid, random conversations, I know I'm creating memories that I'm gonna look back on one day and be happy that I did have those conversations. Even now, talking with my step-mom, she has so much to teach me and even when we're just goofing around doing face masks and watching stupid movies, I'm glad I'm 'wasting time' with them.
- Make time to have fun. I don't know if these are lessons anymore, they're really just rules that I live by. But I give myself two nights a month where I try to get out of the house, and for a little bit, just forget my responsibilities and be silly. It's the nicest way to remind myself that life shouldn't be as stressful as most people make it.
- You make your own family. I learned pretty quickly that family doesn't necessarily mean blood. I love my family with all my heart. Most of them I'm not related to. But I got sucked into this little family and they took me in and made me a part of them, and I built my family around that. I couldn't be more thankful for them all, blood or not.
- Not my monkey, not my circus. That's one lesson my dad taught me. It's one of his favorite quotes. Basically, it means mind your own damn business. If it doesn't directly relate to you, it's not your problem. If it's not your problem, you don't have a reason to be talking about it. And you really don't have a reason to be worrying about it. Worrying about other people's problems will age you too fucking quickly. Worry about your own monkeys.
- You should believe in something. Believe in God, believe in goodwill, believe in yourself, just believing in something can change your entire view of a situation.
- Asking for help isn't shameful. That took me a really long time to learn, but it's one of the best lessons I've ever learned. Asking for help might hurt your ego a little, but it'll help so much more in the long run. I used to be afraid to ask for help and I'm so glad I got past that.
- Failure is not permanent. I've learned that failing is bound to happen at some points in life. It's OK to fail, just don't unpack and stay there. Dust yourself off and keep going. Sometimes failure is the best thing that can happen. Gotta hit rock bottom to go up.
- Everyone is going through their own shit. It doesn't matter how big your storm is, to someone else, their storm is bigger. Everyone is going through their own shit and you shouldn't compare your shit to theirs.
My thoughts: This question forced me to think about the life lessons I have learned. It actually took me a while to think of ten. I guess it really made me look at what I truly think of what rules I kind of live by. I don't know if I like that this question asks you for ten life lessons. I feel like it should've asked for the most important life lessons you've learned so far, not necessarily ten. Just what you think is the most important for people to learn. Not a bad question, but I feel like it could've been asked in a better way.
