20 Quotes To Encourage Us To Think Positively

1.- “Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you’ll start having positive results.” – Willie Nelson

It's intriguing to note the difference in how various individuals react and respond to times of hardship, adversity, and challenge. Some curl up into a ball, feeling sorry for themselves, and try to hide away from the world. Some opt to whinge and complain about their circumstances, before taking their frustrations and anger out on others. Then there are those who take it in their stride, understanding that life is filled with such adversity, so they go about being proactive, and begin working towards resolving their issues. In telling someone who is facing such circumstances, to keep strong and to think positive, you will find their reaction to us would be on par with how they responded to the actual adversity itself. You will quite often hear the good old "how can I possibly think positive when there is nothing to think positive about right now?". Speaking as someone who has depression, I can sure say I've been guilty of both saying and thinking in such a manner, in the past. When it feels like the world is falling apart around us, and everything seems to be going against us, it's extremely hard but to not think anything but negative thoughts. We feel stressed, we feel angry, we feel anxious, we feel overwhelmed, and we feel extremely worried about the future. Such a circumstance or event, or maybe even a string of circumstances and events, have led us into this dark place of worry, uncertainty, pain, and suffering, and it can often have us feeling like there's no way out. Something has completely turned our world upside down, and the future begins to look grim for us. For someone to then turn around and tell us to keep strong and positive, how can we even do that? We are hurting bad, and yet we are told to think positive. Really? Absolutely! We should always be identifying the positives in life, no matter our circumstances, because there are more positives in our life than we ever give appreciation and acknowledgement for.

Adversity, suffering, hardship, pain, challenge, and failure, they are all part and parcel of life sadly. It's not exactly what we enjoy in life, nor desire, but no matter who we are, it's unavoidable. As hard as these times may be, there will always be some form of opportunity for us, waiting to be discovered, and it's up to us to find that opportunity. A lot of the time, we can't make any sense as to why we are going through such adversity and suffering, and why life is piling all this crap upon us, but then as time passes by, quite often it starts to make more sense. We may have had something good, but after having to go through all the adversity and suffering, perhaps we ended up being presented with something, or someone, far better. Perhaps life heaved a tragic event upon us, and drove us mentally and emotionally into the ground, and yet having found the strength to overcome such tragedy, life ended up revealing our purpose. Maybe our life had become stale and listless, so life plunged us into adversity and suffering, purely as a means to draw us out of our comfort zone, so we could experience, learn, grow, develop, and mature, as we are intended to do as human beings. Adversity, pain, hardship, suffering, and challenges suck, I know that! We aren't given a choice in avoiding such times, but we are given a choice in how we respond to them. Firstly, accept and acknowledge that adversity has presented itself, and have that awareness. Secondly, as hard as it may be, and as stupid as it may sound, we need to embrace these times. Thirdly, we need to understand what life is trying to teach us, what direction are we being guided in, and what decisions do we need to make? Finally, we need to then take action in working to overcome it. With all this though, we need to maintain a positive mindset, because if we allow adversity, failures, suffering, and challenges to overwhelm and defeat us, we lose in a big way.

So how do we think positively? How can we divert our attention and focus away from all that's going wrong? As I said above, there are more positives in our life than we ever really give appreciation and acknowledgement to. Gratitude and appreciation are such important traits to posses. When we are negative minded, it's easy to think of all that we don't have, so much so, that we completely forget to acknowledge and appreciate all the blessings we do have. From a roof over our head, to eye sight, to a bed to sleep in, to having children, to being able to have a hot shower each day, to having food on the table, you name it. There are so many blessings and wonderful people around us, that we take for granted every single day, that really should bring immense warmth and joy to our heart. Spend time each day to appreciate all that you do have, and focus your mindset on this gratitude. Even despite all the adversity going on in your own life, dedicate yourself to going out and helping others. A simple act of kindness, support, and generosity, can bring a smile to another person's face, and it can make the world of difference to them. In witnessing how we have perhaps brightened someone's day, or brought a smile to their face, or hearing how much we have helped them from such a simple act, it can bring so much joy, happiness, and satisfaction to our own heart. Perhaps we can also direct our attention towards our goal. Achieving a goal is always going to bring us happiness and satisfaction, so if we direct our mindset to focus on continually achieving that goal, whilst applying ourselves wholeheartedly to the actions that are progressing us towards it, we find it easier to detach ourselves from the negativity and challenges we are going through currently. It's not to say we pretend the adversity isn't happening, or we avoid working to overcome it, but our mindset is what controls our behavior, decision making, emotions, and actions, so it's imperative that we focus on something positive. Positive thinking is a choice, so it's up to us if we choose to be positive minded, and focus on the likes of gratitude, appreciation, generosity, kindness, and our goals, or if we remain negative minded and pessimistic, which will continue leading us down the path of failure, destruction, unhappiness, and misery. Here are 20 quotes to encourage us to think positively, so we can turn around our negative mindset and negative circumstances, into a positive mindset and positive results.
