Marriage Is A Journey

Unhappy couple arguing on the sofa

Love endures forever. When we narrate our journey of togetherness, it gives us another blessing. I wrote no article on Medium in 2020, but let me tell you that I love reading and I have read some of the wonderful stories on Medium.

Also, there are some stories written about our marriage

The world still believes in the connection of soulmate. Literature narrates, and the holy word explains why soulmates exist. But growing numbers of failed marriage makes many people wonder if soulmate really exists? Many presume we often meet a soulmate fascinatingly and supernaturally. In the Indian subcontinent where parents decide the fate of children, there are various testimonies of meeting better half through matchmaking. This is my story of finding my soulmate.

In every story I write, there is one imaginary female character whom I loved with all my heart. Her name and location varied along with stories, her hobbies changed along with my hobbies, and her appearances also altered to some extent along with my maturation. But one thing about her remained constant. With no doubts, I used to say to myself; she would be the one — GOD had chosen for me.

To sustain an arranged marriage is a cakewalk. It needs lots of dedication and sacrifice. In our case, we were fortunate to be served from both ends. The way things have worked in our marriage amazes me.

One of them is the ‘birthdate saga.’ I believe I successfully predicted Ranjita’s birthday seven years before we met.

Never” is a big word. Never letting someone go, effectively means spending, well forever with them — often times referred to as marriage.

While we’re all looking for something different in the person that we’d consider making this massive commitment to, I do believe that there are some universal traits that we can all appreciate, and are all looking for in a potential life partner, teammate, and lover.

Oh — and, if you’re new to my writing — hi! You might be thinking that I write articles about how women “should” act or some such nonsense, but I’ve spent the past decade encouraging men to be better in their relationships. That is where the majority of my work is focused, but every once in awhile, I find myself writing an article about women, too — and that’s what you’ve come across here. So, before you run to the comments and accuse me of “mansplaining,” feel free to browse through my hundreds of other articles that are solely focused on how men should behave in life, and in love.

Now that we’ve covered that, let’s discuss some of the qualities are embodied by a woman whom we can picture being by our side for the rest of our days:

1: She’s collaborative.

“James, what? Collaborative?”

Yes — that’s not a typo — I meant to write collaborative.

Meaning, she’s willing and able to collaborate with you.

Not exactly the sexy or attractive trait you expected to read, eh? Well, the truth about long term happy and healthy relationships is that while the sexy and attractive stuff is necessary, it’s not what is going to keep two people together for the long haul through life’s challenges.

And, it’s not what’s going to empower you both to work together as a team to create the life that you both desire.

This requires…you guessed it…collaboration.

The ability to work together, to solve problems, to discuss things in a logical and rational way. To identify both of your strengths and figure out the best ways to leverage them in order to win.
