Weight Loss Journey: Day 1
Come along the journey of health and fitness. The journey of learning to love myself.
Lately, I’ve been self-conscious about my looks. I don’t enjoy wearing nice clothes or tight clothing because of the way I look in them. So instead of feeling sorry for myself. I am doing something about it. So, here I am documenting the first day of committing to myself.
What workouts did I do on Day 1?
- Yoga-based warm-up
- Sun Salutation
- Arm Weightlifting
- Tried to do wall pilates
Yoga-based Warm-up
Coming into a comfortable seat with my legs crossed and my wrist relaxing on my knees. Taking the moment to tune into my breath. I practice box breathing, which involves breathing in for a count of 4, holding for a count of 4, exhaling for a count of 4, and holding for a count of 4. It is an excellent method to get in tune with your breath because you have to 1) be present with the counting, 2) be present with your breath.
After being in tune with my breath, I began movement. Those movements include:
- Neck press
- Neck rolling
- Side Neck rolling (both sides)
- Side Neck press (both sides)
- Shoulder rolls
- Shoulders shrugged
- Seated forward bend
- Seated Side bend (both sides)
- Table Top
- Cat/Cow
- Organic movements in Table Top
- Thread the needle
- Leg extending
- Circling of the tights
- Toe stretching
- Leg extended outward movement
- Downward dog
- Downward dog - walk the dog: bending one knee and then the next
- Forward fold
- Extended mountain
- mountain
- Sun Salutation
Sun salutation is a beautiful warm-up and energizing flow to wake up the body. In Indian culture, they will do 108 every morning or when the summer solstice begins. We do it in yoga as a way to wake up the body and say hello to the sun. There are two different types of sun salutation and I currently know. Today, I did sun salutation A, which is:
- Mountain Pose
- Extended Mountain Pose
- Forward Fold
- Half Forward Fold
- Plank
- Baby Cobra
- Upward Dog
- Downward Dog
- Forward Fold
- Half Forward Fold
- Forward Fold
- Extended Mountain
- Mountain
Every yoga teacher has their way to welcome the sun with the sun salutation. We are all different, and it's okay to modify flows or sequences to avoid injury. This is my flow, and I enjoy it.
Arm Weightlifting
I found this video on TikTok by Fitbyliss, where she shows how to do weightlifting for the arms. I like how she displays the individual workout. I enjoy all of them except one, just because it is behind my back. I have had many injuries to my head, so I try to avoid things that may cause more damage to my head. Anyway, here is what I did from her video:
- Bicep curls 10
- Hammer Curls 10
- Lateral raises 10
- Around the world 10
- Upright rows 10
- Shoulder press 10
I don’t have a video of me doing it because I am still learning to ensure I am doing it right.
Tried to do Wall Pilates
I used to believe that pilates is weird and semi-dangorous because of the machines they use at the studios with socks on. Yes, I think you should wear socks in community areas or even shoes. However, wood and socks without grippers don’t mix, so it does make me worry. However, I am curious about pilates now after I saw a video of football players trying to do yoga/pilates, and it was funny. So I will give it a try for the month of August.
I found a wall pilates challenge on YouTube by Jenna Collin Fitness. She did very well at displaying the motion/exercise. However, I was looking at the video, wondering how she was doing this. Practice, I know. She wasn’t slipping or banging on the wall. I'm sure my neighbor enjoyed hearing that. It wasn’t on purpose. I was trying to learn something new. So I think tomorrow I will try out pilates on the mat.
Anyways, if you're into wall pilates, give Jenna Collin Fitness a try out on YouTube. It's called 28 28-day wall pilates challenge.
Conclusion
I enjoyed getting up and caring for myself before caring for the little world I have going on. Thank you for your time. Have a wonderful day! I will check back in with you guys soon. Bye!
