Top 8 US states to not have a baby (Opinion)
Unless you want your child to be a preemie
The March of Dimes released their annual March of Dimes Report Card to show the statistics for every single US state in regards to premature birth. The reason for sharing these stats on a yearly basis is to show that more should be done to prevent preterm births throughout the country.
Premature births lead to the children having medical complications throughout their entire lives because their bodies are not given the full nine months in order to develop properly before birth.
One would think that premature births would even be an issue in the world's current superpower. However, some of these statistics are definitely horrifying to expectant mothers.
Over 380,000 babies were born preterm last year throughout the country. That would put the rate on premature births at one out of every ten women in America that conceive. 21 of the 50 states had the rates of preterm births actually increase from 2023 to 2024. One out of every four women in the US do not receive prenatal care in the first trimester.
However, there are eight states that are egregiously over the 10% base average for preterm births. Avoid these eight states if you want to conceive a healthy baby.
1. Mississippi. Mississippi topped this list at a whopping 15.5%. This statistic shows that one out of every six infants born in this state was a preemie. This stat makes the Mississippi welfare scandal involving former Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre look even more egregious. Siphoning funds from healthcare so that Favre could embark upon a statewide speaking tour means that your child will be hooked up to tubes at the time of birth in the Magnolia State.
2. Louisiana (14%). The odds are not much better in Louisiana where one out of every seven infants were born premature. This statistic probably explains why Louisiana is a tourist attraction instead of being a location where people want to reside.
3. West Virginia (13.4%). Quality healthcare is inaccessible to most of the people in the state due to West Virginia almost entirely being a mountainous area. If it was not for Caitlin Clark visiting West Virginia this weekend, then the state would not have experienced a monumental event this year.
4. Alabama (12.7%). Roll Tide! War Eagle! How about fixing your high premature birth rate? Instead of seeking solutions to lower the rate, the state lowered the amount of births when they banned in-vitro fertilization (IVF) last year.
The most ironic part about the banning of IVF was that it was due to religious reasons even though the description of the birth of Jesus Christ in the Bible is virtually IVF in a nutshell.
5. Arkansas (12.1%). It's not a surprise that Arkansas is on this list because the people there care about pigs more than the people. Sooey! Having Sarah Huckabee Sanders as their governor does not help either.
6. Georgia (11.8%). Georgia is ironically known as the Peach State. Well, people there need to eat more peaches so that the premature birth rate can be lower within the state in the future.
7. Kentucky (11.7%). Why is their grass blue? Are the chemicals that make their grass blue also causing for the high preterm birth rates in the Bluegrass State?
8. South Carolina (11.6%). This high premature birth rate more than likely explains why the people in this state embrace the Confederate Flag a little too much. Dylan Roof looks like he was a preemie.
Do you know what the commonality is between all of these eight states? The one thing that these states have in common is that they all seem to vote heavily for Republican politicians, the same politicians that seek to destroy healthcare with "concepts of a plan."
