The Spanish Flu in Alaska
As the first case of coronavirus has been confirmed in Alaska, bringing with it fear of a Black Plague, people forget that this isn’t anything new. There have already been mad rushes to buy off all the toilet paper and face masks, fear of Chinese restaurants and businesses, and daily checking of the virus’ death toll. Gov. Mike Dunleavy has declared a state of emergency. This reaction is not without reason, especially in Alaska where the 1918 influenza took such a heavy toll.

The Covid 19 Diaries
My COVID 19 Calendar 23rd March 2020 will be looked back on by historians studying Britain as one of the most significant days in Britain’s history. Not in the same way as 1st September 1939 when the country started to face the existential threat posed by the outbreak of World War II but as a day when the country had to finally face up to the reality of the COVID 19 virus. For these diaries 23rd March 2020 will be referred to as ‘Day 0’ and all references to the days before and following will be referred to as ‘Day - ‘ or ‘Day + ’ respectively.

14 Days of Quarantine...
These past two years... I mean weeks, has been an interesting for many of us. I'm sure if you're not apart of the lucky bunch who still has their jobs and some sort of security, you've probably started to lose your mind like I have. Being locked away under quarantine to protect my life and the life of those closest and most vulnerable to me has been both challenging and exhausting. There's only so much Netflix and YouTube a girl can watch before she loses her sight because of the blue light emitting from her laptop.

Dear World, Hello. I’d say “I hope you’re well”, but then you’d laugh in my face. Yes, you've entered a new pandemic era. No, it does not look so good… And yes, you are suffering. But you are not dying. You are finding your strength to stand back up on your own little feet very soon, and you are not alone. You are filled with endless oceans, a wonderous vast of green landscapes, strong standing trees, blooming fowers, and thriving habitats with big and small little habitants that are your wildest and most innocent creatures to exist before any of us humans. I’d like to say that nature is still thriving everywhere. Or that we’ve made all efforts to try and keep you safe through time. Or that our new generation is living fearless and content, with not a worry to hunt it down each and every day and night. I wish I could say with certainty, that no matter what happens you’ll still look down upon us and smile vividly each day that goes by, screaming “proud” on top of your lungs. But, once again, you’d laugh in my face.
