My 411 About Coming Off Mental Health Medications
I started taking Effexor XR, aka venlaxafine, in the fall of 2010 after experiencing ongoing issues with what I now am able to recognize as anxiety. I was extremely functional, but my brain and my body were very overtaxed and the theoretical backpack of things that I had been dealing with over the course of several years was virtually to the point of bursting. At the time, what did I know? I was following the example I felt was set by the generation previous to mine; you soldiered on although you most definitely needed a break from the general "stuff" life had been throwing at you.

Swallowing the Spider to Catch the Fly
From July 2015 to July 2016, I was part of a clinical trial for an antidepressant drug that is not yet on the market. I worked with a psychiatrist and a team of nurses to maintain dosing and monitor my health throughout the study.

The Image Makers
Before we are born, we deliberate with the highest potential of our self, the Chuluamadahey, or the Keepers of our Book of Life. This is represented in the number 18 on what is known as the Children's’ Count, a way that numbers communicate with us here on Earth. This number is also associated with the Hebrew word ‘chai’, meaning ‘alive’, ‘living’, or ‘life’, as in “L’chaim,” a toast to life. We examine the lessons we have yet to learn and design a life that will deliver us the opportunities we need to learn these lessons.

'Perform Your Dutiful Action without Attachment.'
This is posted in our office here at BambooMoves, Forest Hills. I love the conciseness of it and the message it conveys. And it makes perfect sense for it to be a mantra (phrase) for our staff, but really any business where excellent customer service is such a key component.

Is Starving Yourself Twice a Week a Bad Idea?
People are always looking to find a way to lose weight, and the most obvious way to drop the pounds is to starve yourself. However, starving yourself isn't necessarily the healthiest way to lose weight. In fact, self-starvation can actually kill you rather quickly.

Living a Plant Based Lifestyle
What IS a Plant Based Lifestyle? Many of the leading nutritional ‘experts’ are now using the term “Plant Based Lifestyle” to define a nutritional way of eating and living. They are migrating away from the term “Vegan” because of the differentiation in nutritional focus. While vegans avoid animal products and foods and advocate for animal rights, a Plant Based Focus is usually concerned with the Health & Wellness of the individual.

Bullying, Is This Just a Disability Problem?
Quite a while ago, I read a book titled Bullying and Students With Disabilities: Strategies and Techniques to Create a Safe Learning Environment For All by an author by the name of Barry McNamara. The book was geared toward children, but I found a lot of material of interest that dealt with bullying and disability. I read this book through a service for the disabled called BARD, which stands for the Braille Audio Reading Download service. People with disabilities who can't read the printed word can get books like this one free of charge either through this site, or from their cooperating library or in the mail with a specific 'cartridge' that can be inserted and played on a specialized audio player.

The Way Things Used To Be
One cannot help wonder by looking at the events that are occurring around the world today that maybe we would all wish things were back the way they used to be. Long before the Internet and smart phones we managed quite nicely with rotary telephones and remoteless TVs. We actually had to get up to change the TV channel. There were only three channels so there wasn't much debate on what channel to turn to. Not like it is today. Many of us can even remember the days before families got their first television set. Back then the radio was the family entertainment. Imagination is a wonderful experience. But, as we look around today there is too much stress, worry, and even with all those technological marvels of modern living today we really aren't connected like people were those many years ago.
