Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD)
Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is a more severe form of premenstrual syndrome (PMS). It can affect any woman of childbearing age. It is a serious and chronic medical condition that needs attention and treatment. Lifestyle changes and sometimes with the help of medication alone help in managing the symptoms.
What can be the reason (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder Causes)
The exact cause of PMDD is not yet known. This may be due to abnormal hormone changes during periods. Serotonin deficiency can occur due to hormone changes. Serotonin is found naturally in the brain and intestines, which can affect mood by constricting blood vessels.
Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder Symptoms
PMDD symptoms appear before the start of the period and end within a few days after the start of the period. Irritability, not feeling like doing any work, lack of concentration, depression, anxiety, acne, skin rashes, vomiting, bloating, constipation etc. are its symptoms. They also disrupt everyday tasks. During this time, women have difficulty in doing any work of home, office and relationship.
Test
If someone in the woman's family has had this problem, that is, history, then the chances of her getting this disorder increase. Physical and pelvic examination can be done for this. In very few cases, clinical trials are possible. Since mental health is affected, healthcare experts may ask the woman to evaluate for a mental health problem.
PMDD Treatment (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder Treatment)
Riddhima says, 'This disorder is mainly caused by a bad lifestyle. That's why it can be asked to bring changes.
The intake of more salty and more sweet should be reduced.
Consumption of protein, carbohydrate, fat, caffeine and alcohol should be very less.
Regular exercise and yoga is very important.
Don't do things that can cause stress .
This problem can be reduced by taking vitamin supplements like vitamin B6, calcium and magnesium.
Birth control pills, anti-inflammatory drugs, and some serotonin-modifying drugs are also given .
For some women, the severity of PMDD symptoms increases over time. This can last till the menopause phase. For this reason its treatment can last for a long time. In case of more problems, do not forget to consult your gynecologist.
