The Year I Gained 60 Pounds
And, not in a “She’s got nice curves now” way. It’s so hard to talk about weight, especially when it comes to this day and age because of the fear of offending, triggering or going against the #bodypositivitymovement that I personally believe has been so helpful for the mental sanity of so many people out there.

A Drug Addict Saved My Life
Taking the stairs like a toddler limited my ability to hold my pee for more than a minute or two. Hand on railing, lead with left foot, bring up right foot, left foot, right foot. Pause and breathe. Begin again. An accident would revert me back into a full fledged child. So, no tripping and no pee-pee pants on my watch! Because of my limitations, I avoided stairs. You just don't imagine this being your reality when you're barely forty years old.

Aging Awkwardly
Lately, I have all but stopped looking in the mirror, and a one-time snap and post selfie has turned into twenty before I have the nerve to post the final filtered version. What is with those crow’s feet? Have they gotten so pronounced that Botox doesn’t work anymore? And, oh my god, what happened to my neck? Let’s not even think about letting someone see me naked. It’s a good thing I’m single. I even hide myself from myself. I do not look in the mirror until I at least have a towel wrapped around me. When did this happen?

The Strange Thing About Sugar
I remember being six years old and sneaking into the kitchen to eat hot chocolate powder out of a bowl. It was Cadbury’s, and in those days, it used to come in these purple tins. I’d pop the lid open with a spoon and eat it plain, without milk. I still do that! I also remember the day I drank cough syrup like it was Pepsi, straight from the bottle, because of how sugary sweet it tasted. I couldn’t have been more than five years old. Luckily, nothing bad happened (and I definitely don’t do that anymore), but it really goes on to show how skewed my sense of reason is when sugar is concerned.

Positive Psychology Welcomes Your Dark Side
Martin Seligman was weeding the garden with his five-year old-daughter Nikki. It was 1999, and he had recently been elected as president of the American Psychological Association (the APA) — the largest and most prestigious organization of psychologists in the United States. Nikki was singing and dancing while throwing weeds up in the air. Seligman, on the other hand, was grumpy and becoming increasingly annoyed. He yelled. And his daughter walked off, upset.

Free Weekly Reading #8 2021 Mirror Dragon Tarot
Free Weekly Reading #8 for 2021, 2-22- thru 2-28-21 Each week when I do these readings I set up my reading space with black fabric, (for the photo, mostly but it also allows for and smooth, calm space to focus on the cards) make sure I have undisturbed quiet time; dogs are out, husband is at work/play/store/whatever, phone is off, etc… I begin with a quick grounding meditation and settle into a centered peace to ask for guidance in choosing the cards which will be most appropriate for the week ahead. I shuffle the cards with my intent in mind and spread them in a dealer’s “ribbon spread”. Then with eyes closed, I ask for the Center card, the West card and finally, the East card, reaching out to the spread, touching the cards and choosing the one that feels most fully under my finger tip, then sliding them into their positions. Before opening my eyes I return to a calm, centered state and do my best to sense whether the three cards I’ve chosen are the most fitting for the highest and best for all involved. Only then do I turn them face up and photograph them for the reading. There are times when I see the three cards before me and groan or breathe a sigh of relief but I always use the cards I’ve selected ”blindly”.

5 Things I've Learnt About Myself Since I Started Working Out
I’ve had an up-and-down relationship with exercise. I’ve spent most of my life hating it and resenting myself for not having an ideal (read: highly unrealistic and airbrushed) body. That mixed with an intense sweet tooth always left me feeling scared of working out. The chances for failure were so darn high. I had stints where I spent time at the gym, but I always ended up binging on sugar afterwards, as though to reward myself, and I was always mad at myself for not working hard enough to get the (toxic extreme) body type that I so desired.

Finding Your Movement For Life
Having studied the science of human movement and nutrition at University, I could sit here all day and discuss the importance of regular exercise. But really, the keynote I want to share is that movement does not have to be some over-complicated, time consuming chore if you find something you enjoy.

Exercising At Home
This morning I forced myself out of my cozy nest and made myself a coffee while I watched CTV Newsnet. After my second cup I took a deep breath and said 'Get it done girl'. I pulled on my new pair of Lululemon capris and an old t-shirt. Grabbing the overflowing basket of dirty clothes, I made my way downstairs. I threw in a load of whites and turned on the lights to my rumpus room. Stepping over the mostly-done fifteen hundred piece puzzle and Lego world that was created last week, I grabbed my shoes, turned on my TV and got to it.
