Do you know what effect turmeric can have on your health? Have you ever wondered how taking it daily can help you eliminate many troublesome ailments?

What is turmeric? It is a golden powder that is most often found in Indian cuisine. In its composition, there is a healing compound called curcumin, which has many health-promoting properties.

Turmeric and curcumin are rich in other compounds that help our bodies remove carcinogenic substances. The cyclo-curcumin in question also has a direct anti-cancer effect on the cells of the entire human body.

Let's check who, in the first place, can benefit from the beautiful properties of turmeric and curcumin itself.

Allergies.

The first group of people who have a chance to reduce troublesome ailments related to, for example, hay fever are allergy sufferers.

It has been proven that taking 500 milligrams of curcumin once a day for two months can improve the quality of life of people who suffer from this condition. In addition, it has been observed that the ailments accompanying allergies are also reduced, such as:

- itching and nasal congestion,

- runny nose,

- difficulty breathing through the nose,

- reducing the formation of excessive secretion in the nose.

Patients also experience an improvement in airflow during breathing itself.

Gastric and duodenal ulcer disease.

Turmeric can also help digest fats. This is all because the curcumin in turmeric improves bile release from the gallbladder. Studies have shown that people who suffer from gastric and duodenal ulcers can also supplement curcumin, which helps to neutralize the content of gastric juice. It is worth emphasizing, however, that taking curcumin alone without using classic drugs is not a practical solution. Of course, as in any case, I recommend consulting a doctor to choose the correct treatment suitable for each patient's needs.

Diabetes.

People with diabetes can also benefit from the health-promoting properties of curcumin. Curcumin is a powerful antioxidant that helps capture free radicals that are intensively released during this disease. It is also worth noting that other ailments often accompany people with diabetes. One of them is retinopathy, i.e., eye damage from oxidative stress. Curcumin helps to reduce this stress and improve visual comfort.

In addition, turmeric has been shown to improve vascular function during diabetes. Thanks to this, it reduces the risk of atherosclerosis, which often accompanies this disease.

Rheumatoid arthritis.

Another ailment in which curcumin can bring relief is rheumatoid arthritis. This autoimmune disease causes severe joint pain, which can be relieved by taking painkillers. How positive an impact turmeric can have on pain was shown by a study conducted in 2012. The patients were divided into two groups. The first group was given 500 milligrams of turmeric, and the second group was assigned 50 milligrams of diclofenac sodium, a drug commonly used in many diseases accompanied by pain sensations. The results of the research were surprising. The group who received only turmeric as a painkiller had significantly better DAS indicators (DAS is the severity of rheumatoid arthritis). This means that people who took turmeric, rather than standard medications (in this case, diclofenac), responded much better to this natural substance.

It should also be mentioned that the level of pain reduction was better than when patients were taking the standard drug. The study also concluded that scientists believe that curcumin is superior to diclofenac because it is safe and does not interfere with specific cell cycles. These, in turn, can cause side effects in the long term, as is the case with some synthetic drugs.

Fatty liver.

Another significant dependence of curcumin in turmeric is the ability to improve the course of fatty liver.

Many biochemical processes take place in the liver every day. Among other things, the liver retains environmental toxins and excretes them outside the body. Fatty liver weakens this process. Therefore, without a doubt, the fight against fatty liver will improve the health of our entire body.

This is where turmeric can help. According to a 2016 scientific study, patients were given 500 milligrams of turmeric (equivalent to 70 milligrams of curcumin). After eight weeks, it was observed that supplementing this ingredient can improve the course of fatty liver.

Depression.

Turmeric will be beneficial for people who suffer from depression and take antidepressants.

Turmeric supplementation, together with antidepressants, improves the results of depression treatment after just six weeks.

The antidepressant effect of turmeric is seen as the effect of turmeric on lowering cortisol levels and increasing glutamate activity in the brain. This is one of the reasons why turmeric helps in reducing the symptoms of depression.

In addition, studies show that turmeric may have a potentially positive effect on the course of anxiety disorders, as it turns out that turmeric increases the level of docosahexaenoic acid. It is an acid from the group of omega-3 fatty acids found in our brains. The use of turmeric affects the achievement of an anxiolytic effect.

Smoking.

Turmeric also reduces the harmful effects of heavy metals on our DNA. Therefore, it may reduce the risk of certain cancers. Responsible for this unusual feature is cyclo-curcumin, contained in turmeric. This is essential information for smokers. Cigarette smokers absorb many heavy metals from cigarette smoke. Taking turmeric reduces the risk of lung cancer.

How to dose turmeric?

As many studies have observed, just 500 milligrams of turmeric improves patients' health. This dose is also most often recommended by doctors for everyday use.

What are the contraindications to the use of turmeric?

Turmeric should not be taken by people who have a problem with the following:

- conduction of blood in the blood, as turmeric can interfere with the amount of urine absorbed,

- blood coagulation, as well as spontaneous bleeding,

- with kidney stones, as turmeric can increase their confidence.

How to improve turmeric absorption?

For curcumin to be absorbed faster and better by the body, it should be taken together with piperine, which is contained in pepper. Piperine increases the bioavailability of curcumin by as much as 2000%.

Therefore, if you are preparing a meal with turmeric, do not forget to add a little pepper, which will also diversify the taste of the dish.

However, if you use turmeric supplements, make sure that they also contain piperine.

Not only can piperine increase the bioavailability of curcumin. The lecithin contained in sunflower seeds also boasts such properties. Lecithin is a known emulsifier that combines fat and water phases. Since the penetration from the water phase to the fat degree is the problem of turmeric, lecithin significantly improves this problem.

Curcumin is a vital link connecting the world of conventional and natural medicine. Its use can help patients with various ailments. It is worth reaching for it and using its beneficial properties.
