I deleted all of my social media years ago pre-pandemic. I was being stalked, but I didn't know by who until years later when I figured out it's my toxic ex.

Getting off social media ended up being one of the best decisions I’ve made. However, it is good for exposure, and I’m dreading getting back there to promote my writing.

There's a lot of negativity on there. Social media has turned into a space people go to vent and get out there aggressions. Whatever irked them that day, they turn to their cameras and begin complaining and throw that low-vibe energy out into the world. These types of TikTok videos will pop up on my Youtube feed or get featured on a news article I'm reading. There are a lot of unhealed people out there not doing the inner work and these videos reinforce that.

Other’s thoughts and opinions are more influential than we realize. Content we consume with our eyes and ears absorb into our minds. The mind is like a super computer and any input is like programming. When you truly realize this, you realize the mind is a sacred space and not just anyone gets to have dominion over it. A stranger should not be able to influence you with their negative thoughts or complaints.

Have standards as to who you choose to take advice from, or even listen to. Learn know when someone is operating from a low-vibe or high-vibe. Look at their life, and how they live. Are they happy? Do they inspire inspire you? Are they growing themselves, or are they stagnant?

Consider the fact that social media content is fuelling your mind. Negative content will have a negative effect on your mental and emotional state, and positive content will have a positive effect on your mental and emotional state.

Filtered pictures of beautiful women with picture perfect makeup and symmetrical faces will alter one's own perception of the self. They make us question our own naturalness, and develop insecurities. Those looks may come across well in photos, but they don't translate well in real life. It’s simply too much makeup.

Negative news on social media outshines the positive stories. Negative news causes emotions to run high, and social media is the space to vent. I stay away from it to protect my own mental and emotional health, and some may think it’s turning a blind eye to the problems of the world.

I spent my 20s attending marches and protests. As I get older I realize there are powerful individuals at the top making world decisions, and no amount of marching the streets and protesting is going to get them to relinquish power. The best we can do is volunteer and offer aid to those who suffer in the aftermath of their decisions. Helping and being of service to others is healing, and it’s what we’re all here to do.

Protect your mental and emotional health and stay away from the negativity. We can only work on healing our own selves. The greatest revolution is raising our vibe. A society in a low-vibe state remains stagnant and is easily controlled.

When I do get back on social media, it will likely be one or two accounts. My intention will be to promote my work, and put out as much light as I can. I will be selective with the content I consume and hopefully configure the right algorithm for my feed. I am excited to get out there, and carve myself out a positive space. I’ve been away from social media long enough to come back armed with the right knowledge to practice it safely.
