Day 2 of taking turmeric everyday

A 21-day experiment and practice in attentiveness

There's a pain on my right knee that's been there for a while. It comes and goes. It was never a real concern until that time in my mid 20s when I decided to climb a mountain. Perhaps the way up is not too worrisome. The way that knee was hurting, the descent was a concern. That's how I found out about glucosamine, which is the first supplement I ever bought and took religiously. The moment my training and the actual hike was over, I stopped taking them.

The next supplement I bought willingly was magnesium. That was for my muscle, to help them relax because my hip had jolted out of position. A cat had walked in front of me unknowingly (both the cat and I were oblivious - the cat was being a cat, and I was looking at my phone on the move), and I fell, hard, on one side. At first, I was fine, and over the next few days, I started having pains (which I ignored) until I literally couldn't get out of bed one day and basically ended up being bedridden for a good part of three months. I learned later that athletes take magnesium all the time to help them restore and repair muscles faster. When I pulled out the last magnesium pill, I didn't buy another helping.

In between these two, there were supplements, mostly multi-types, for various health and vanity reasons. All that to say that the turmeric purchase was not exactly odd, but I am still puzzled why I only took a few and abandoned the rest. I am convinced it has something to do with inflammation in my body, but I do not recall if I was taking it for something specific (liver detox? cholesterol control?) than general wellbeing.

Last night, the moment I put the pill in my mouth, I felt the sting. Turmeric has teeth! It wasn't unpleasant. Just surprising. I had gone to bed straight after. Today, I will do pretty much the same.

A quick report for the day:

- Physically I feel fine. It's surprising, given that my sister and I went to adventures two days in a row. Maybe we are fitter than we realised. I ate a tuna sandwich (spicy) for breakfast, a plate of fries doused in siracha mayonnaise and topped with fried beef bacon for snacks, a mocktail that had yogurt and matcha (that's two days of matcha in a row, which is funny because I don't take matcha normally), and for dinner we shared a gnocchi with prawns, penne bolognaise and a margarita pizza. Cheese, I thought, would make me more inflamed. I might be too tired to notice what the signals for inflammation are but I do tend to be more gassy after dairy.

- Mentally, I'm also fine. Except that I was stood up by a tailor. I had sent my new jeans and sports pants to be shortened and after asking it to be done quickly and promising to come back 15 minutes later, I went off, unfortunately, to the shop next door. You see, it was a book store, and book stores are my personal kryptonite. So, I got back to the tailors 2 minutes later than promised and found it closed. It was my fault, I thought, but I was also so upset that I cursed the tailor in my head and hoped she would lose money that day. Unkind, I know. When I saw not one, not two, but three customers see the shop closed and turn away to bring their custom to nearby tailors, I changed my mind. I didn't want the old auntie to lose future sales. I waited for the tailor to open shop again, thinking she might have gone for lunch, but after one hour and a half of waiting, I decided to leave and arrange to return some other time to pick up my belongings (which, by the way, I had already paid for).

- Emotionally, based on that story, I have my lows. That was probably my lowest point of the day (the being upset to the point of cursing part). Other than that, I had a blast with my sister who leaves for home tomorrow. It is the last day of her extended birthday weekend and we spent it together eating, drinking, walking and even went to the gym. We even walked off some of our dinner since the restaurant was a good 20 mins away on foot.

I don't know if this is relevant, because I don't think turmeric helps with this, but I did poop today. My bowel movements aren't regular although the last decade or two I've developed something of a pattern. My eyes are looking slightly bloodshot. It could be from the sunscreen on my face melting into my eyes. The weather in Kuala Lumpur is so humid.

Nothing more to report.
