After autumn, these three foods act as "lung cleaners." Eating them regularly helps clear the lungs, keep dryness away, and prevent autumn coughs.
Keep Your Lungs Fresh This Fall with These 3 Amazing Lung Cleaners!

As soon as autumn begins, the weather changes like a kid's mood—totally unpredictable! It's so dry that my throat feels like it's on fire, and coughs are echoing everywhere. But don't worry, today I'm bringing you three fantastic "lung cleaners" to keep your lungs feeling fresh and comfortable this fall!
1. Pears – The Sweet and Soothing Fruit
Pears are our old friends. They're packed with vitamin C, with around 5 milligrams per 100 grams, which is even more than apples! They also contain about 115 milligrams of potassium per 100 grams, helping our heart and muscles function well. Plus, they're rich in fiber—around 3.1 grams per 100 grams—which is great for digestion.
I have a colleague who had a terrible cough and a dry, sore throat because of the autumn dryness. He started eating a pear every day, and within a few days, his cough got much better, and his throat felt more comfortable. He said that every bite of a pear felt like a refreshing rain for his parched throat.
There are so many ways to enjoy pears! The simplest way is to peel and eat them raw—one bite, and your mouth is filled with sweet, juicy goodness. For something more soothing, try making pear and rock sugar soup. Wash and core the pear, cut it into small pieces, add a few pieces of rock sugar, and simmer with some water for 30 minutes until the pear is soft and the soup is thick. One sip, and it feels like sweet relief from your throat to your heart, with amazing lung-soothing effects! You can also juice the pear and drink about 200 milliliters in the morning to feel energized all day.
2. Tremella – The Ultimate Lung Nourisher
Tremella, also known as white fungus, is excellent for lung health. It's rich in natural plant-based gelatin, making up about 15% of its content, much more than the common black fungus. It also contains protein, dietary fiber, and various vitamins and minerals. This gelatin can make your skin smooth and hydrate your lungs.
My neighbor, an older man, often had trouble with wheezing and coughing every autumn. His wife started making him a bowl of tremella soup every day, and after a month, his cough was significantly reduced, and he could breathe easier. He said that at first, the cough felt like a heavy pressure on his chest, but after drinking the soup, his breathing improved, and he felt much more energetic.
There are many ways to prepare tremella. The classic tremella soup involves soaking the fungus, tearing it into small pieces, and simmering it with red dates, goji berries, and rock sugar for about an hour until it becomes gelatinous and full of collagen—great for your skin and lungs. Or you can make a tremella salad by mixing cooked tremella with cucumber and carrot strips, and adding a bit of dressing for a refreshing dish that's hard to resist.
3. Lily Bulbs – For Calming the Mind and Lungs
Lily bulbs are also great for lung health, containing protein, vitamins, minerals, and colchicine. They have about 3.2 grams of protein per 100 grams, and they're rich in vitamins. These components can calm the mind and help with lung issues and coughs.
My cousin was under a lot of work stress, often had insomnia, and also suffered from coughing. She couldn't sleep well at night and felt exhausted during the day. After following her doctor's advice to eat lily bulbs regularly, her sleep quality improved, and her cough gradually got better. She said that eating lily bulbs made her feel peaceful, and she could sleep well at night and feel energetic during the day.
Lily bulbs are easy to prepare and delicious. You can cook them with rice to make a nourishing lily bulb porridge, simmering for about 40 minutes until the lily bulb's fragrance infuses the porridge. Or you can stir-fry them with celery for a quick, refreshing dish ready in just 5 minutes.
Friends, aren't these three "lung cleaners" tempting? Add them to your diet to keep your lungs healthy and comfortable this autumn. Dryness is nothing to fear if we eat the right foods.
