How I Lost 10kg Without Diets, Pills, or Starving — My Honest Routine Anyone Can Follow

By Shehzad AnjumPublished 5 months ago 4 min read
No crash diets. No extremes. Just real change, one habit at a time.

We’ve all seen those “before-and-after” weight loss photos online — glowing smiles, toned bodies, captions promising quick results. But the truth? My journey was nothing like that. There was no magic pill, no strict diet, no personal trainer.

I’m just a 23-year-old girl who was tired of feeling uncomfortable in her own skin. This is my raw, unfiltered story of how I shed 10kg — not by starving or following trends, but by slowly building habits that anyone can follow.

The Breaking Point

Two years ago, I stood in front of my mirror after trying on almost every outfit I owned. Nothing fit right. My face looked puffy, I was constantly exhausted, and climbing two flights of stairs left me breathless.

I wasn’t obese, but I wasn’t healthy either. Sugary drinks, late-night snacks, and emotional eating had quietly become my lifestyle. My body was drained, my mood was unstable, and my confidence had almost disappeared.

The wake-up call wasn’t the scale. It was realizing that even the simplest daily tasks felt heavy. That night, I promised myself: no crash diets, no pills, no starving. Just small, steady steps toward a better me.

Step by Step: My Lifestyle Reset

1. Walking Became My Therapy

I started small: just walking. No gym, no fancy gear. Some days 10 minutes, other days an hour. Over time, I built up to 8,000–10,000 steps daily. It wasn’t just exercise — it was a space to clear my head, breathe, and reconnect with myself.

2. Relearning How to Eat

I didn’t “go on a diet.” Instead, I paid attention. I ate slower, cut down portions, and avoided eating late at night.

Soda became water or herbal tea.

Pizza stayed on the menu — but two slices instead of four.

Carbs weren’t banned; I just swapped white bread for oats or brown rice.

It wasn’t about restriction. It was about balance.

3. Tackling Emotional Eating

Food used to be my comfort blanket: chocolate for stress, chips for boredom, ice cream for anxiety.

Journaling changed everything. When cravings hit, I’d ask myself: “Am I really hungry, or just feeling something?” Writing down my emotions helped me process them — without opening the fridge.

4. Prioritizing Sleep & Water

Scrolling until 2 a.m. left me drained every morning. Fixing my sleep was life-changing. I now switch off my phone before bed, read a little, and aim for 7–8 hours of real rest.

Water, too, was a miracle. From barely 2 glasses a day, I now drink about 2 liters. My digestion improved, bloating vanished, and even my skin looked brighter.

5. Moving With Joy, Not Punishment

After two months of walking, I craved more. I discovered yoga on YouTube, practiced 15 minutes daily, and sometimes just danced in my room. Movement stopped being about burning calories — it became self-care.

6. Cutting Screen Time, Rebuilding Real Life

Social media had been fueling my insecurities. Perfect bodies, fake “what I eat in a day” reels — they made me feel worse. So, I detoxed.

I unfollowed toxic accounts, joined a women’s book club, and spent more time with friends and family. Real connections grounded me in ways scrolling never could.

The Results

After six months, I was 10kg lighter. But the physical change was just half the story.

My energy skyrocketed.

My bloating disappeared.

My skin and hair became healthier.

My periods regulated.

But the biggest change? I finally felt at home in my own body.

The Emotional Shift

I once thought being thinner would make me love myself. The truth? It was the other way around. Once I began treating my body with love, it responded.

I celebrated small wins — choosing water over soda, walking an extra block, journaling instead of snacking. Each tiny victory reminded me: I am capable of consistency and self-respect.

What I Didn’t Do

Let me be clear:

I didn’t count calories.

I didn’t follow keto, fasting, or trendy diets.

I didn’t buy powders, supplements, or pills.

I didn’t skip meals.

I simply listened to my body, stayed patient, and showed myself kindness — even on the messy days.

You Can Do This Too

This isn’t a “lose weight fast” story. It’s about awareness, healing, and small, steady growth. Don’t wait for Monday or some perfect moment. Start today:

Take a 10-minute walk.

Drink an extra glass of water.

Write down how you feel instead of eating your emotions.

Sleep a little earlier tonight.

Final Thoughts: A Journey, Not a Destination

Weight loss isn’t about hitting a number and then slipping back into old habits. It’s about transforming your relationship with your body.

Yes, I still have off days. Sometimes I eat junk or skip movement. But now I bounce back with grace, not guilt.

You don’t need to suffer to change. You don’t need to diet to be healthy. You don’t need to look like anyone else.

You just need to believe your body deserves love — and then show up for it, one small step at a time.
