The five items in my closet tell the story of who I am.
From the streets of Asia to the winters of Michigan: I found my Solace and Heritage in my wardrobe.

"I am the one who chooses. I am the one who makes my own fate. But beyond the labels of 'liberal' or 'Muslim,' my true story lives in my closet. Moving from Asia to Michigan two decades ago meant leaving behind the easy access to the modest fashion I loved.
Coming from a Muslim background, modest clothing has always been my top choice. When I first came to the US, my closet was all that I could pack in a bag. I struggled at the start for a while to find the clothes dearest to my heart. Whenever I used to get on a call with my folks back in my country, they would brag about the latest fashion that’s been trending there, but I could not get my hands on that due to the limited availability of modest Islamic clothing in this part of the world back then.
I got married to the love of my life who also happens to be a Muslim descendant, he and I in fact cherished the love of Modest clothing to the “T”. We have always wondered if we would ever get lucky to find the best in Islamic Clothing in USA? What if a time comes when we could also get our hands on the trending clothes that we keep close to our hearts?
But when it happened, magic happened. One fine day while browsing internet, I came across a modest Islamic clothing store called “Shannoh”, it changed everything. We got what we always have desired; we could order trending clothing pieces just by clicking a mouse. We were able to fill our closet with happiness!
Let’s get on to me telling me why we love wearing Modest clothing and what are the top 5 items in our closet that make us who we are?
Myth vs Fact
People believe that modest Islamic clothing is only for Muslims, certainly not, it’s not about the religious code of conduct or the wise people telling what to wear or what not to wear, rather for us it’s about comfort, it's about the choice of fabric and the best part is Modest clothing like Abayas, Thobes, Salwar Kameez, Kaftans and even long skirts offer that comfortability all day long, these loose clothing’s don’t stick to your body and since they are flowy and breathable, the level of ease they offer, the form-fitting clothes can’t match.
Minimalist Abayas
I absolutely love “Abayas”, from the bottom of my heart, I have not loved anything else in my life or been fond of anything in life so much as I love carrying a minimal look by wearing a modern and elegant Abaya. This piece of clothing has made my days cheerful even when I was feeling down, made my days bright when I was lost.
The polyester well knitted minimalist Abaya’s in beige, tan and cream color options are my absolute favorite.
Architectural Thobes
The white structural and architectural Thobe is my Husband’s top pick when it comes to wearing something special during festivals or attending a weekend dinner or attending a wedding. It pairs well with any accessories and doesn’t make a lot of effort to match my clothing too. He in fact loves wearing it to office sometimes and I have always remembered him saying he feels so light those specific days because of the breathability a thobe offers.
Vibrant Salwar Kameez
Another absolute favorite apparel that not me but a lot of Indian women loves wearing is Salwar Kameez and I cannot imagine without it my closet being complete. I would never complain of buying an extra pair of Salwar Kameez even I had hundreds of them already in my closet, that’s only because they come in vibrant styles, offer a variety of textures to choose from and it’s the best that any women can have for sure.
Flowing Skirts
Believe me when I say that I have like 50 of these pieces, the best part is these long skirts can be paired with almost anything you want to pair them with. My US friends have borrowed them from me for weekend trips and paired them even with tank tops, and I must say, they paired well. Get one of these today from my absolute favorite online store “Shannoh”, you will love it.
Majestic Kaftans
Do you know these loose-fitting, yet majestic and even more magical clothing comes from Mesopotamia? Let me explain it to someone who has heard this name for the first time; it’s beautiful. It features long sleeves and ankle-length cuts made with silk or koshibo. It’s the best thing you could have in your closet, certainly one of the best apparels that I have in my closet. Do check them out; you will instantly fall in love with them.
These five pieces are more than just fabric; they are the bridge between my Asian roots and my Michigan home, curated with the freedom to choose my own style. Through Shannoh, I’ve transformed my closet into a loving and stylish testament to what I love wearing, proving that true elegance lies in the liberty to be exactly who you are.
