The Psychedelic Furs and The Jesus and the Mary Chain Concert Review.
On November 9th, 2024, I drove to Inglewood, CA. Not for the Clipper Game that very evening nor the Cosom. No, it was YouTube Theater, a 6,000-seat tiny sibling venue nestled in the column arm of its larger brother So-Fi Stadium, which was hosting none other than the legends themselves, the Jesus and Mary Chain and The Psychedelic Furs, on their final tour stop. Both alternative/indie rock bands started their fame during the 80s with the albums Darklands, Automatic, Talk Talk, Talk, and Forever Now. Cementing their pop culture status in many film content across the decades.

Why Do Women Need Control Over Their Bodies? Understanding Abortion Laws in India
The issue of abortion has consistently sparked considerable debate and conversation. Some individuals advocate for the rights of mothers or pregnant women to choose to continue with the pregnancy or terminate it; conversely, others believe that a foetus is more than just a mere collection of cells, viewing it as a living entity with its own life, deserving of individual rights and freedoms separate from those of the pregnant woman. A notable instance when personal freedoms were at risk was when women's access to safe abortion services was jeopardized. For many years, until 1971, India deemed abortion criminal and referred to it as “intentionally causing miscarriage.” Voluntary abortion, except in cases where the pregnant woman's life was endangered, could result in a punishment of up to three years in prison, a monetary fine, or both.

Welcoming the Sabbath
Tonight is Friday night and at sundown, Sabbath began. I was listening to one of my favorite Christian playlists, while trying not to cry, and thinking back to something a good friend said, "good things come to good people." My life has been throwing one thing after another at me - which makes me feel insane and started to question if maybe deep down I am a terrible person who is just now getting what they deserve.

Stolen Spotlights
You’ve seen the viral clips: ASL interpreters signing at concerts, rallies, comedy clubs, and other big events. They’re animated, expressive, and captivating to watch. And honestly, it’s great to see more visibility for sign language and interpreters—after all, we need more accessibility like this.

7 Days of Grieving - 6
Today was a busy and hard day. After I was done with all my four classes, I had a short conversation with my mother as I had to rush to a committee meeting. Mom lives in Russia and our Skype communication is one-way: she calls me when she can, I cannot reach her at all. So I pick up whenever she calls, even for a short call. Mom called me the first time today right in the middle of the class I was teaching. My students were amused to hear me speak Russian to her as I was making sure that nothing major bad happened and asking her to call me back later. She called about an hour later and we exchanged all the family news (we rarely talk politics as it is simply not safe). After that, I went to my Assist Committee meeting.

No Pain, No Gain?
I remember as a little girl thinking my grandmother was the most loving and craziest person I knew. Nobody loved me better in my opinion, however she would say some really disturbing things. Before I had even stepped foot into a school, she had told me two things that had me very worried: 1. "Life is extremely hard." 2. "It only gets harder as you get older." I believed her, yet I think that's why I was also so quick to give up or get so suicidally depressed. It's not that she was serving me a deception, and I know her intentions were to prepare me for the challenges ahead, but perhaps that pep talk would have been better served at a later time.
