Pinnewala Elephant Orphanage Pinnewala Elephant Orphanage is a famous tourist attraction located in Pinnawala, Sri Lanka. The orphanage is a sanctuary for elephants who have been rescued from the wild due to injury, abandonment, or separation from their herd. Established in 1975 by the Sri Lankan Department of Wildlife Conservation, the orphanage is home to more than 70 elephants and is one of the largest captive elephant colonies in the world.
