How could anyone not like children?
When I was a kid (a child from birth to age 18) I didn't like other children except for the rare one who was kind enough to be my friend. I thought they were foolish, over emotional, rambunctious, dangerous, rude, thoughtless, and often cruel. I avoided them as much as possible (with the exception of that rare one I called friend) and tried to spend most of my time learning from the adults - my parents and teachers. Most people thought I was a very obedient, well behaved, angelic child until my teen years when I began to assert myself more and it seemed rebellious. Now I know that was a necessary stage and transition into my adult life.

Ancient Mysteries
Pompeii, Italy, 79 AD. Around 1 PM on a serene late summer day, the ancient Roman city under the shadow of Mount Vesuvius was abruptly shaken by a colossal volcanic eruption. Within minutes, superheated gas and lava engulfed the city and its surroundings, burying thousands of people alive and turning their home into their tomb. Nearly 2,000 years after the eruption, Pompeii remains a city frozen in time. This catastrophic event was a pyroclastic eruption, where clouds of ash and debris, hundreds of degrees hot, cascaded down the mountain, flash-frying everything in their path. Miraculously, the intense heat carbonized and preserved rather than destroyed various forms of information. Today, well-preserved architecture, wood, organic materials, foodstuffs, human remains, and animal remains, buried beneath the volcanic debris, offer archaeologists and tourists a breathtaking glimpse into the doomed ancient city.

THE HIMBA PEOPLE
The Himba people are indigenous, semi-nomadic people who mostly reside in the Kunene Region of northern Namibia. The tribe has an estimated population of around 50,000 and mostly subsists on livestock farming, particularly breeding sheep and goats, though they also grow crops like millet and maize. These herders live very simple lives, far different from the modern lifestyles of those who live in urban cities. The tribe is comprised of smaller family communities, and members of these family villages dwell in circular wooden huts that were built to surround an “okuruwo”—a sacred fire the Himba people believe allows them to connect with the spirits of their ancestors. These homesteads also have specially built enclosures they refer to as “kraal,” in which they rear their cattle.
